Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lancashire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Leaf-shaped Neolithic flint knife or oval side scraper dating from c. 3000-2100BC. This object appears to have been bifacially flaked suggesting that it is a knife. However, we do not have a side view for this object (only two images were provided by the finder) so we cannot be certain. It looks to have pressure flaking on dorsal side. It was probably formed on tertiary debitage rather than a deliberate stuck core.

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Cumbria
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A knapped barbed flint arrowhead possibly of late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date, c. 2500-1500. The arrowhead looks complete even though one of the barbs may have been slightly damaged. The arrowhead is of roughly triangular shape with two barbs on either side and a very broad based. The notch for one of the barb is slightly higher than the other and the barb itself looks smaller in comparison. The arrowhead was made from dark brown milky non-translucent flint and all surfaces are worn. It is unclear if this arrowhead is of British origin - it is very different in shape from ou…

An irregular tertiary flake of translucent grey flint mottled with a low gloss surface dating from the Early Neolithic period, that is c. 4000-2500BC. There is some possible retouch but this is better interpreted as plough damage. Low bulb of percussion; some suggestion of a platform dressing before the removal of the blade.

Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Cumbria
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A late post-medieval to early modern gunflint from a flint lock rifle or musket dating to the 17th - 19th centuries. The gunflint is still in its lead case/holder. The gunflint is sub-square in plan and appears complete. The flint has been knapped around the edges in order to get the correct shape. The distal edge is thinner and the flint is triangular in section. All of the edges are relatively straight. The flint used is a dark brown to black colour. The lead case is still complete encasing about 40-50% of the flint. It seems to have been made from a long piece of lead, one side rou…
