A complete cast lead alloy circular flat weight with one decorated face. On the decorated face there are five large raised pellets, four equally spaced to form a square and one pellet placed in the centre (also known as a 'quincunx'). The other face is undecorated, with the traces of the lead material of the obverse face and sides having been rolled over onto the reverse face, causing a light crease around the edges. It measures 30.15mm in diameter, 6.13mm thick and weighs 36.5g (1.29 oz). This seems to be a casually produced weight, which is likely to date to either the Roman, med…

A complete cast lead weight of uncertain date. The weight has a flat circular base with a cylindrical hole which runs up through the weight, drilled off-centre and surrounded on the base by a slight ridge. No mark or decoration is present. The metal is a mid grey to white colour and is worn. The weight is 25.98 mm tall, 23.21 mm tapering to 11.45 mm in diameter and weighs 55.1g. Plain weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards for a wide variety of uses and are hard to date precisely. Therefore, due to a lack of contextual evidence and any diagnostic features i…

An extremely abraded metal disc, possibly a silver plated/washed copper alloy Roman coin. The finder believes that this is the right size and thickness for a Republican denarius, but it is impossible to positively identify based upon its poor preservation. Due to the nature of what looks like an uneven striking pattern, it is also possible that this is an Iron Age silver unit. It measures 19.12 mm diameter, 2.97 mm thick, and weighs 2.8 grams. The metal of the coin seems to show a light silver colouration, although it is impossible to determine whether this was plating or simply a…
