A complete medieval personal lead seal matrix, dating to AD 1200-1300. The seal is a pointed-oval or vesica shape. The central design consists of a vertical long elongated oval above a shorter elongated oval, with a horizontal line between them, two lines descending at 45 degrees from the intersection, and two curved lines either side of the long elongated oval. A medieval cast bronze cooking vessel leg, probably from a tripod ewer (c1400 - c1500 AD). The leg is 'D' shaped in section with the flat edge to the outside, and flares out to form a foot. There is decoration of three rectangular incisions on the flat edge. The leg weighs 4.45 grams and is 30.5x9.5x3.5mm. Some similar legs are recorded as WREX-7B3A2C and IOW-7DCF17. The Gilbert ewer held in Swansea museum (http://www.swanseamuseum.co.uk/our-collection/finds-from-swansea-and-neath/the-gilbert-ewer) is a complete example of the sort of vessel this leg was from.

A Lead shot which is 28mm in diameter and weighs 120 grams (~1/4 lb). The dating of 1642-1645 assumes this find dates to the Civil war as shot of this calibre would not have civilian use. There was significant activity in the area during the Civil war and Basing house is only about 2 miles away.

A trapezoidal buckle with a drilled frame for a seperate spindle, three tongues and an anchor chape. In Buckels by Ross Whitehead, similar buckles with anchor chapes, multiple tongues and the spindle running across the length rather than the width of the frame are identified as Knee buckles and dated to 1720-1790s (page 111).

The obverse inscription is R COMES FLANDRIE, and the reverse inscription is MOn ETA AEN TLO The coin weighs 1.26 grams and is 18.3mm in diameter.

A post medieval silver shilling of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), 3rd issue (1583-1603), Tun initial mark dating to 1591-1594. The obverse has quite a lot of wear to the portrait but the rest of the coin is clear. The obverse legend is ELIZAB D G ANG FR ET HIB REGI and the reverse legend is POSVI DEU ADIVTOREM MEU The coin is 29mm in diameter and weighs 5.31 grams.

A cast copper-alloy annular brooch of Medieval date, ~1200- 400AD. It is circular in form with the remains of the pin wrapped round a constriction in the frame. Opposite is a transverse groove where the pin rested. The front face of the brooch has moulded decoration forming two oval shaped collets, now empty. Between the collets the frame is moulded into lobes which are decorated with incisions, possibly representing scales as on a similar brooch recorded as SF-BEE09D. The rear of the brooch is flat. Half of a pair of cast copper-alloy tweezers dating to the Early-Medieval period (c.AD.410-900). The tweezers were formed of a single piece of metal, bent over to form two arms that are sub-triangular shaped in plan and rectangular in cross-section. I single incised line runs along one edge of the tweezers and there is decoration formed of five 'ring and dots' arranged in a T shape. The object is 27.9mm long. It is 12.2mm across the blade and 3.7mm at its narrowest. The blade is 2.1mm thick. The object weighs 1.07 gram. Some similar examples are recorded as BUC-5…

A post medieval base metal (possibly lead/tin alloy) cuff link with a inset faceted green glass stone dating to ~1650-1800AD. The metallic section has been decoratively cast with a beaded rim and two linear grooves below. A circular-section simple looped shank has been cast integrally on the back of the cuff link. The other fastener which would comprise this cufflink are missing though there are some surviving remains of the link showing it was made of iron. A copper alloy trapezoidal shoe or knee buckle dating to ~1660-1720AD. The buckle has ornate concave sides. The central bar and pin are missing but there is signs of iron corrosion at one point on the frame suggesting the pin was made of iron and has corroded away. Ross Whitehead: Buckles 1250-1800 has similar examples on page 99, ref 622 and 627. The buckle measures 24.1 x 19.3 x 3.6mm and weighs 3.02 gram.

The base of a small circular Roman seal box dating to ~100-400AD. Andrews type C2. The remains of a double lugged hinge projects from one edge with a small notch in the rim which would have been in the centre of the hinge, and another two notches in the rim at 90 degrees each side of the hinge. The base has four holes, three arranged in a triangular shape with a forth hole in the centre. The object has a circular base 12.2mm in diameter with a circular cross-section central column which is 3mm in diameter at the point of the break. Obverse: Helmeted head right Reverse: Stylised cockerel right with snake in mouth, above stylised head. The coin is 16.4mm in diameter and weighs 2.07 grams. A Jacobean cast copper alloy two piece sub annular shoe buckle dating to 1660-1720. The frame is oval and the plate is an elongated heart shape with integral pin and stud. There is evidence of rust over the centre section of the buckle suggesting there was originally an iron component to the buckle, though the central bar does not appear to be iron as the plate seems fully attached to the frame and still rotates slightly. The buckle frame measures 21.9x18.3mm with an overall length of 27mm including the plate and is 10.2mm thick including the stud. It weighs 3.88 grams. …

A Medieval cast copper alloy pendant loop or purse hanger dating to the late 14th century comprising a bar mount and openwork quatrefoil loop. One of the lobes is squared with a recessed bar to form a hinge with the suspension bar mount which is formed of sheet metal and wrapped around the bar. The bar mount retains two rivets of diameter 1.7mm and length 5mm. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1400. The pendant loop weighs 2.13 grams and measures 25.5x14.8mm. The quatrefoil is 15.9x14.8x2.3mm and the mount is 12.6x4.9x5mm. A similar pendant is recorded as NLM-7B05E8.
