Probable Iron Age gold stater fragment; roughly one quarter of the coin survives and it has been bent almost double and apparently cut. On one side are eight raised rectangles set at angles to each other; on the other side the decoration is less clear as it is folded but there are raised pellets and a circle containing a pellet. Gold finger-ring. Decorated with five panels depicting hands and possibly a foot and what could be a bird. Cross hatching, background of rows of bosses and dots between panels.
Crown of Thorns depicted, with possible drops of blood on hands and feet.
Could possibly be early 18th Century, but the crown of thorns and background decoration suggest a more likely date of 17th Century.
Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

A small, slender, sub-triangular piece of gold sheet, probably a Roman votive plaque.
The two long converging sides appear to have complete edges; the pointed tip is bent; and the base appears to be a broken edge. Four parallel and equally-spaced crease lines running at right angles to the long axis indicate that the object was probably folded and compressed and has, perhaps, recently been 'unfolded'.
Despite the surface irregularities caused by the folding and unfolding processes an incised/ repoussé design is visible. It comprises a central rib with angled veining on either si…

CORONER'S REPORT
Description of Find
The ring is substantially gold and consists of a broad, punch-decorated band tapering sharply at each end to wire terminals which were originally twisted together; width, 26 mm. On either side of a very worn, beaded median rib the ring is decorated with two rows of interlocking punched triangles with triple pellets in each. The ring has been distorted while in the ground and the ends are now almost untwisted as a result.
Discussion
Both the form of the ring and the punched decoration are typical of Viking jewellery of the late 9th-10th …
