A modern copy of an Early Medieval silver halfpenny of Edward the Elder (899-924), based upon Norrth 660 (floral penny) albeit seemingly intended to be a halfpenny version, of which no real examples are known. The style and flan of the coin are not consistent with an early-medieval piece- the flan is too smooth and the design/inscription too well defined and crisp. It may be an 'Ashmore copy' who produced a very similar fake penny of this type (T. Abramson 'Anglo-Saxon counterfeits', p.152). Obverse: Small cross pattee within a plain inner circle; inscription: EADVVEARD REX Rev…

An Early Medieval (Anglo Saxon) silver penny of Eadmund (AD936-946). Bust crowned type. North no. 698. Martin Allen writes: "This is an excellent example of the Bust Crowned type of Eadmund (939-946) by the Norwich moneyer Manticen, who also produced the Bust Crowned type for Athelstan (924/5-39). The reverse, which is from the same die as a coin in the Norwich Castle Museum (SCBI 26,1118) reads MANTICEN MO NORPC. There are eight coins of Manticen in this type in the EMC/SCBI database, but they are all in the museums and this is the first find recorded in EMC." Dimensions: diame…
