A Post Medieval copper alloy incomplete buckle (1600-1650). This is a double-looped buckle with moulded rosettes on the outer edges and lobes at the junctions between the frame and the cross bar. The pin is missing. A very similar buckle is illustrated by Margeson (1993:30 no.174) and dated to 1600-1650. Dimensions: length: 44.31mm; width: 26.06mm; thickness: 2.04mm; weight: 6.44g. An incomplete Early Medieval (Anglo Saxon) gilded silver keystone garnet disc brooch, Avent Class 1.1, AD 525-575. This brooch belongs to the earliest, class of Kentish jewelled circular brooches (Chadwick 1958, 58) The brooch is incomplete, being broken in half and missing its pin and catch plate. The trapezoid keystone garnets are backed by hatched gold foils. An incomplete Lower Palaeolithic small, bifacially worked, flint handaxe of cordate type dating c. 400,000-150,000BC. The handaxe was found on the foreshore and consequently is rolled and abraded with a small amount of edge damage. There is invasive soft hammer flaking covering both faces. The butt and mid portion of the axe is thick and it then tapers to a rounded point. The cross section is lentoid (pointed oval). The flint has an orange patina. A Post Medieval silver box dating to the mid - late 18th century. This box was probably a snuff box or a patch box but Hazel Forsyth believes a snuff box is more likely. The box is oval in plan with curved walls. The lid is hinged and there are two oval facets; one on each side wall. These oval facets are plain without the engraved decoration that covers the rest of the surface. A silver coiled ring, possibly a finger-ring, of post medieval to modern date (see 'Discussion'). It is made from a silver strip with a triangular cross-section and coiled with five turns into a spiral. The ends of the strip are cut with no further shaping. A Post Medieval leather inner sole dating 17th - 18th century. This inner sole has a rounded heel, narrowing around the arch and then flaring for the ball of the foot before ending in a square toe. A Post Medieval ceramic sherd comprising a knop, probably Borderware, probably from a money box dating late 16th - late 17th century. This fragment comprises an ornamental knop at the top of a long neck, the knop is made up of three concentric ridges tapering towards the peak. The peak has a central depression. Small traces of a clear glaze survive in the grooves in between the ridges and on the long neck. Pearce (1992:37) writes about money boxes with similar shaped knops but none have as long a neck. She suggests a date range of late 16th - late 17th century for the money boxes.…

A Post Medieval ceramic rim sherd from a stoneware mug, from Frechen, Germany, dating to the late 16th century. The rim sherd includes an applied lion-mask on the neck. The sherd is a dark grey stoneware, the surface has a brown iron wash under a coarse speckled salt-glaze. There is no decoration visible on the internal nor external surfaces. The shape is slightly distorted but it is complete. A similar example is recorded on the database - LON-F24318, although the shape of the bowl differs slightly and that one has some internal decoration.
