Sub-oval, flat copper alloy object. The object is broken into two pieces and each has a slightly different patina as they were recovered from the same site some time apart. The object has a curved outer edge and is oval in shape. There is a band around one side and both ends of the oval which looks like a twisted rope in design. The bottom edge of the object (where this band stops) has broken away and it is unclear whether the band continued or not. Carved jet cross made from Whitby Jet. The cross is equal-armed, each arm flares slightly at the end. At the centre and at the end of each are, the cross has a small ring and dot and these are joined together with four single lines radiating from the centre. The cross has a polished surface and the design may have some sort of inlay. The upper arm is pierced with a small circular perforation for hanging as a pendant. The pendant is slightly wedge shaped in section and it thicker at the end where the hole for hanging is.

Copper alloy zoomorphic mount with cast integral stud. The mount is shaped like a crocodile flat on its front with the legs splayed out. The two back legs appear to be intact but the front part of the animal has broken away. There is a single incised line running down the centre of the back. Crocodiles did sometimes appear on mosaics during the Roman period although no parallels for this mount have been found. Copper alloy flat mount, cross and crosslets shape. The mount has a simple line decoration running along the inside edge of the cross. In the centre of the reverse there was probably a pin, possibly made of iron to attach the mount. The mount weighs 1.12g and measures 22.5mm in diameter.
Amy Downes, FLO, adds: A published reference for mounts of this design is the Army and Navy Stores Catalogue from 1907, where they are on page 197 described as "fancy nails".

Copper alloy axehead, probably dating to the Bronze Age. The axehead is quite chunky in form and has been poorly cast and so would have been discarded. The cutting edge of the axehead seems to have cast well but the butt is completely miscast and has a pitted uneven surface. The axehead weighs 139g and measures 57.1mm in length, 29mm in width and 21mm in thickness.

Fragment of Bronze Age palstave axehead. Only a small part of the butt end of the axehead survives and is quite corroded. The side flanges are intact on the edges of the butt but none of the blade survives. The piece weighs 42.97g and measures 51mm in length, 22mm in width (across the side flange) and 16mm in thickness.

A copper alloy, Bronze Age flanged axehead known as a 'Wing-flanged' axe, dating from 1600-1400BC. The axe is complete but is heavily pitted with corrosion. On one of the side flanges, there are two small circular patches which may be the remains of a fixing point for a loop. It is 106mm long, 43.2mm wide (across the blade edge) and 27.9mm thick. It weighs 188.4gm. Two similar (unprovenanced) parallels can be seen in Nicholson, S, 1980, Catalogue of the Prehistoric Metalwork in Merseyside County Museums, page 87, Numbers 200 & 201.

A fragment of a copper alloy, Early Bronze Age, flat axe, probably of the Migdale type, dating from 2150-1500BC. Approximately one third of the axehead is represented by this piece. The thinned blade edge survives and flares out at each side. Before the broken edge, there are slight flanges on the edges of the axehead. It has been suggested that Bronze Age axes were sometimes sacrificially killed (cut into pieces). The fragment is 32.4mm long,, 36.2mm wide and 8.8mm thick. It weighs 33.41gm.

Copper alloy miniature votive axehead/chisel probably dating to the late middle Bronze Age. The object is a model of a flanged flat axe (a precursor to the Palstave axe). The model has a long thin body that narrows slightly from the butt to the centre; there are flanges on each side of the body. The axe splays to the blade which is flattened and has a slightly rounded cutting edge. The axe weighs 2.1g and measures 38.49mm in length, 10.27mm in width and 3.62mm in thickness. Miniature versions of functional objects are commonly ritual contexts and are thought to represent votive deposits.

A cast, copper alloy, flat axehead of the Migdale-Marnoch tradition, dating from the early Bronze Age, 2150-1500BC. The axehead has a thin narrow rounded butt; the body then thickens in the middle and thins again to a splayed blade and cutting edge. There are slightly raised flanges along the sides. The surface of the axehead is quite corroded and pitted; only small patches of the original surface survive. The axehead measures 104.8mm long, 50.8mm wide across the blade and 11.8mm thick. It weighs 203gm.

Cast copper alloy leaf-shaped nail-cleaner with transverse grooves on neck The nail-cleaner has a loop at the top and slightly thickened neck moulding, this consists of a rectangular shape with two transverse incised lines on both sides. Copper alloy Roman nail cleaner with moulded neck of Crummy's type 2a. This example has a large circular suspension loop and the flat stem is wide at the top to facilitate grip between finger and thumb. The stem narrow at the end to a forked tip used for cleaning the nails. there is a central groove running up the article. The cleaners weigh 2.03g and measure 43.8mm in length, 10.4mm in width and 1.81mm in thickness.
The nail cleaner would have formed part of a toilet set including tweezers and a pick and most likely would have hung together on a chatelaine brooch or from a belt.…

Small copper alloy heraldic stud. The stud is quatrefoil with an angle between each lobe. The background of the stud is red enamel and there are three lions passant on the front although their tincture has worn way. At the top of the stud, over the top lion there is a label, in this case a riband with three shorter ribands hanging down from it. The label was either in place to shown a difference or was an indication of cadency used by the eldest son during his father lifetime. Copper alloy shield shaped heraldic horse harness pendant dating to the medieval period. The pendant weighs 11.69g and measures 44mm in length, 25mm in width and 7.5mm in thickness (across the hanger). The pendant is flat and has a round hanger with a small circular perforation; this is set at 90 degrees to the pendant to enable it to hang and swing from a fitting on a belt or strap. Roman trumpet brooch, of Collingwoods type Riv. The brooch is likely to date to the late 1st - mid 2nd century. The brooch has a flared head with a central lug on the reverse. The lug has a pointed triangular projection to prevent the headloop from slipping forward. The brooch has a spring mechanism of six turns and a headloop formed from the axis wire of the spring which is curved upwards and secured by a collar formed of a flat piece of copper alloy.
