Section of a copper alloy penannular brooch. This type of brooch is a simple form of accessory and was in use for over a millennium. It is made of two pieces of wire; one bent into an open ring and the other piece wrapped around the frame to form a pin. Only about half the brooch frame survives of this example and is a late Iron Age – Roman period example with a type D3 terminal. The terminal is squared off with incised linear decoration. The brooch weighs 2.74g and measures 39mm in length, 17mm in width and 3.6mm in thickness (across terminal).

Unusual cast copper alloy pommel. The pommel takes the form of two conjoined heads facing away from each other and joined at the back of the head and neck; probably male and female. The features on both faces are crudely defined but appear to be either early medieval (Norman) or possibly Celtic in style. The pommel is similar in form to a Medieval kidney dagger which would have had a wooden handle and the tang from the blade would have gone through the slot. The body of the lock is a hexagonal barrel and has incised dot decoration limited to the bottom two facets. Above the barrel there is a protruding arm at each end with another small hexagonal tube attached to each one. Ampulla or miniature phials such as this were the main type of pilgrim souvenir (in England) during the 13th century and were designed to hold a measure of the thaumaturgic water dispensed to pilgrims at many shrines and holy wells of the period. Small copper alloy strap fitting, possibly Romano-British in origin. The find is shaped like an oval ring with a thickened top surface on which there is a cast cross motif that looks to have once been enameled. The fitting weighs 7g and measures 18.5mm in length, 13.3mm in width and 15mm in thickness. The fitting may have been used as a form of strap slider of strap decoation.

Large Roman bow brooch, possibly a Dolphin derivative. The surface of the brooch is heavily pitted and corroded and the form is unusual as the moulded foot is flattened. The brooch is poorly finished with the hinge setting on the back of the head set off centre. The bow has decorative vertical lines down the back and most of the catchplate is intact. The brooch weighs 24.31g and measures 54.6mm in length, 32.39mm in width and 32mm in thickness. The poor manufacture and unusual metal of this brooch could indicate some form of copy.

Medieval lead circular seal matrix with a broken suspension loop at the top dating to the 13th century. The matrix has a central motif depicting a five petalled flower or possibly five oak leaves radiating from the centre. Around this is a legend reading SIGILL RADVLF []IR (Seal of Ralf) The end of the legend is unclear but indicates that this is a personal seal of fairly low status. The seal matrix weighs 25.21g and measures 38.6mm in length, 30.7mm in width and 5.7mm in thickness including loop.

Copper alloy Roman T-Shaped brooch fragment. At the head of the brooch there remains a cylindrical case forming the wings into which the spring pin mechanism would have fitted. Only the top section of the bow survives; this has two globular decorative elements on the front before it is broken away. The foot and catchplate do not survive. The fragment weighs 5.88g and measures 25.6mm in length, 26.41mm in width and 10.7mm in remaining thickness.

Small Roman 2nd century enamelled disc brooch. The brooch is divided into enameled cells on the front surface. A central band of enamel divides the circular face of the brooch into two halves; each half then has a wide border of blue enamel and a small semi circular cell in the centre next to the central band. The brooch is quite worn around the edges; a very similar example is illustrated in Hattatt’s Visual Catalogue of Ancient Brooches, Fig.204, Nos. 1040, 122 & 1568 each of which have small peripheral lugs around the edge. Small fragment of a very worn Roman trumpet brooch dating to the 2nd century. The head of the brooch and part of the bow survives. The head has a loop on the back through which the sprung pin would have fitted. The bow has decorative moulding at the waist which is continuous around the bow. A Roman button and loop fastener of Wild's Class VIb (Britannia, 1970) dating to the 2nd century. The fastener has a small, flat undecorated rectangular head which is attached to the loop via an integrally cast arm which attaches the two elements at a right angle. The loop is an elongated triangle in plan. The fastener weighs 2.55g and measures 22.5mm in length, 11.25mm in width and 7mm in thickness.

Copper alloy medieval horse harness pendant. The pendant is very worn and although the motif of a lion can be seen, the colour does not survive and it is therefore impossible to pin this pendant down to one individual arms. The lion on the pendant is a lion rampant (guardant - possibly) maculate (with spots). At the top of the shield there is a suspension loop with a circular perforation; the loop has some gilding on the front. The pendant weighs 16.27g and measures44.4mm in length, 27.11mm in width and 8.5mm in thickness.

A collection of 48 lead Musket balls. Some of the balls have clearly been used and have pitted and damaged surfaces whilst others are smooth and undamaged. All the musket shot appears to be the same calibre; diameter measurements range from 17-19mm (with the majority being within the 17mm range) and weights range from 23.3g - 29.6g (with most examples being in the 28-29g range).

The pendant itself depicts three lions on a red enamel background ('Gules three lions passant guardant') i.e. the arms of Ancient England. The tincture of the lions has unfortunately not survived but is normally gold for this common coat of arms. The pendant measures 48.12mm in length, 34.45mm in width and 5.05mm in thickness.

Miniature lead vessel, probably for use as a toy. This type of jug is one of the most commonly encountered medieval miniatures and they often correspond very closely with full-sized ceramic counterparts. The jug has become quite squashed whilst in the ground but the thin handle remains intact at the top of the jug. There is cast decoration over the surface of the jug in the form of vertical lines on the main body of the vessel with a band of chevron decoration around the shoulder of the jug.

Small copper alloy openwork mount with two separate copper alloy rivets, probably dating to around the 12th century. The mount is sub-rectangular and is reminiscent of an Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) wrist clasp in form. There are two semi-circular holes next to each other and cast decoration on the front surface although this is very worn. The back is flat and undecorated apart from the two small rivets. The mount weighs 4.14g and measures 27.7mm in length, 14.6mm in width and 4.71mm in thickness. The function is not clear although the find may be related to stirrup fittings.

Copper alloy medieval quatrefoil horse harness pendant. The pendant is quite worn but the decorative motif can still be seen on the front. The pendant depicts either a griffin or a dragon with front leg raised on a red enamelled background with a tiny amount of silver on the animal and the edge of the pendant; ‘Gules a griffin/dragon passant argent’. It is difficult to distinguish which animal it is as the pendant is so worn, however both griffins and dragons have four legs as seen on this creature. Copper alloy 2nd century Roman Headstud brooch. The brooch is quite worn but is complete apart from the pin. The wings have square ends and have a line of cast decoration running vertically down each side. On the top of the head there is a curved fin and at the bak of the brooch there are cylindrical wings and the remains of a hinged pin. Below the fin at the top of the bow there is a large circular stud - hence the 'headstud' classification; this is cast into a ring and dot design and would have been decoratively enameled although this does not survive. Copper alloy decorative horse harness pendant. The pendant is quatrefoil in shape with a suspension loop at the top and has the remains of a bird (possibly an eagle) motif on the front. The bird is facing the front but has its head turned back over its shoulder. The background has remains of blue enamel and part of the bird looks to have been decorated with red enamel. The motif is not a heraldic one but is more likely to be a family badge although these are difficult to track down as relatively few are known and are mainly only associated with the very wealthy.

Copper alloy circular seal matrix dating to the medieval period. The matrix has a worn central motif of a 'pelican in her piety' This motif depicts a common medieval theme; it is a pelican pecking her breast in order that her blood can feed the chicks in the nest below and is a religious comment on the shedding of Christs blood to save mankind. Copper-alloy medieval seal matrix dating to the 14th century, with several unusual features. Firstly, although the matrix does not have a heraldic design, it is shield-shaped. Secondly, the central motif appears to be a bird with a cockerel's tail upon the back of another animal with a long straight tail.
