Decorative copper-alloy mount with zoomorphic ornament. It is flat and sub-rectangular in shape and tapers slightly from a wider top to a narrower base. Both top and bottom edges are curved, but the sides are straight. There are no fixing or hinge points and the reverse of the mount is undecorated. The front has a square sunken panel containing a relief griffin-like animal in profile looking left. Medieval lead seal matrix. The matrix is vesica or pointed oval shaped and flat. The back is also flat with only two small circular indentations near the top and bottom. The central motif of the seal is a phallus, below which is a single vertical line, presumably indicating the legs. The inscription (written in reverse) reads SIGILLUM HENRICI 'seal of Henry'. The seal matrix weighs 14.50g and measures 37mm in length, 22.8mm in width and 3mm in thickness.

Die made from copper alloy, probably dating to the medieval period. The die has six flat faces but is not a perfect cube. The numbering system is the same as on modern dice so that opposite sides add up to seven. Similar die have been found at Medieval York although these have a punched ring and dot for the numbers and the examples recorded in 'Finds from Medieval York' (Ottaway & Rogers) are made from jet and ivory. They date from 12th-mid 14th century. The dice weighs 14.84g and measures 13.96mm in length and 11.12mm in width.

Four sherds of Roman grey ware, three are rim sherds and one is a base sherd. Two of the rim sherds appear to belong to the same vessel (probably a jar) although the break is not new. The fabric is mid-light grey in colour and is fairly fine. The four sherds weigh 142.3g.

A rim sherd of Roman black burnished ware with lattice decoration. The outside of the sherd is dark grey and the fabric is a paler grey with small quartz inclusions. The sherd is similar to several recorded in the Roman Castleford report, 2000, Volume III-The pottery, pages 117, 128-129. These examples were present during phase II & III of the Vicus area of the Fort c.AD 85-180. The sherd probably belongs to a flat rimmed bowl. The sherd weighs 45.8g and measures 67mm in width across the rim.

A body sherd of rusticated Roman greyware pottery. The fabric is fine and sandy and pale grey in colour. The sherd weighs 19.9g and measures 58.7mm in width (around the circumference of the pot). The surface of the sherd has rusticated decoration in the form of five wavy lines at the top, which are drawn up from the surface of the vessel rather than applied. This type of decoration was a feature of vessels used by the army between about 50-120AD. The Castleford excavation report, Volume III (The Pottery) has similar examples of rusticated greyware coming from the Fort in Phase I & II …

Base sherd of a Roman colour-coated (or Castor ware) beaker. The sherd is the complete circular base or foot piece of the beaker and has concentric rings (presumably from construction) visible on the inside of the vessel. The outside of the base or foot is flat and smooth. The pottery has a bronze coloured slip with a slightly metallic lustre. The fabric is pale grey in colour and is fairly fine. The piece weighs 16.58g and measures 41.3mm in diameter.

Fragment of a malting tile dating to 17th-18th century. One side of the tile is flat with circular (or flower shaped) arrangments of small circular perforations. On the back of the tile, these perforations open out into larger circular shafts which run through the tile (approximately 22mm in diameter). Malted grain was slowly dried on large floors made from these perforated tiles through which heated air could pass. Cast copper alloy buckle and buckle plate with a round frame and central pin bar. One outside edge of the frame has a knop, possibly in the form of a crude zoomorphic head. On the opposite side of the frame there is a flat fantail embellishment protruding over the buckle plate with an incised herringbone/chevron decoration. The frame was cast in one piece. Copper Alloy pipe tamper with seal probably dating to 16th-17th century. The tamper part is undecorated and tapers from a flat circular ended terminal to the junction with the upper part of the pipe tamper. The tamper & seal intersect at ninety degrees with a cuboid shaped element between them. This has a central circular drilled perforation. The seal protrudes at a ninety degree angle from the tamper and widens to a flat oval face on which is depicted a (running) stag with large horns; there is no inscription.

Late medieval flask shaped lead ampulla. The ampulla has a flattish section and a sub-rectangular handle on each side. The bottom section of a crown design is just visible on one side of the ampulla and there is a depression in the centre between the two handles. The other side of the ampulla has the common scallop-shell motif. The badge would probably have been worn on a cord around the neck and was designed to contain holy water dispensed at many shrines and holy wells. Fragment of a faience Roman melon bead dating from the 1st-2nd century. The fragment has four slightly diagonal grooves, a buff core and traces of a bright turquoise glaze. S.Worrell adds: Faience melon beads were produced in a range of sizes and tend to have wide perforations and convex profiles with vertical or slightly diagonal grooves scored into the outside surface.
