Sherd of late medieval to post medieval Cistercian ware. The fragment is roughly half of the base from a cup or mug. The fabric is dark reddy grey with the distinctive dark black glaze common to Cistercian ware. The glaze is on the inside and the outside of the pottery. 1

Medieval flat pointed-oval lead seal matrix dating to the 13th century. The seal has a personal inscription reading: + SIG ' AVINE (seal of Avine). Avine was a popular woman's name in the medieval period and survives in modern times as 'Aveline'. It derives from the Latin 'avis' meaning bird. Normally medieval seals have a central motif but unfortunately this is a worn example and the circular perforation in the centre (which is likely to be a later addition) obliterates what we might be able to see of the motif. Fragment of Roman Trumpet brooch, dating to the late 1st - 2nd Century of Collingwood type Riv. The head of the brooch survives as far as the acanthus moulding at the waist (this moulding does not continue around the bow but is just present on the front). The brooch is fairly worn but red and blue enamel is present on the decorated head which is decorated with back-to-back crescents. On the back of the head is an integral spring lug with a large perforation. The brooch measures 38mm in length and 16mm in width across the head. Unusual copper alloy mount or pendant, probably dating to the medieval period. The mount is flat and quite crudely shaped into a fleur de lis. The mount has some incised decoration on the front. Down the centre and along each arm there are crescent shaped incisions and between the two arms is a central circular perforation, possibly for hanging or for a rivet. At the bottom of the fleur de lis shape there are two incised ring and dot markings next to each other. The function of the object is unclear. It measures 28mm in width by 32mm in length.

Post medieval copper alloy knife end-stop, probably dating to the 16th century. The end-stop is three dimensional; it has an oval section with a groove for the tang. The overall shape of the end-stop looks like a hammer head, it has a protrusion from each side. Some similar examples can be seen in Brian Read's 'Metal Artefacts of Antiquity' Fig.56, No.650-653 and 655. The end-stop measures 18mm in width and 7.5mm in thickness.

16th century flat copper alloy mount with integral suspension loops and separate rivets, probably from a sword belt. The mount is asymmetrical with a circular loop protruding from one side. The mount has an open work design and is made up of three main elements; at the top there is a bar with an iron rivet at the centre, below this is an open circular frame with three protruding points on each side and a small rivet hole below, and below this is an open rectangle (with the protruding lateral circular suspension loop coming from this). Copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch dating to the 2nd century. The brooch has the distinctive flared trumpet head with a central lug on the back for the spring pin mechanism, although this does not survive. The brooch tapers to a section of decorative moulding at the waist which is continuous around the back of the bow. Above and below this are pairs of lateral ribs with a single line of twisted rope effect decoration between them. Copper alloy finger ring. The ring comprises a simple undecorated flat band measuring 5mm in width. The diameter of the ring is 22mm (it was probably worn by a man) and the thickness of the hoop is 1.5mm. The ring is difficult to date due to the lack of decoration and it probably dates to the post medieval period.

Copper alloy mount, or strap fitting. The object is sub-rectangular (it tapers slightly at one end) and has cast decoration on the front surface and on the back there is iron. The front surface is divided up into panels each with decoration. On the left there is a panel with diagonal lines across the whole surface, in the centre are two bands with no decoration and on the right is a semi circular section with linear decoration. The mount probably dates to the post medieval period. It measures 32mm in length, 14mm in width and 3mm in thickness.

Copper alloy, ring, possibly Iron age ring money (dating to around the 2nd century BC). The ring is plain and undecorated with a sub-circular section. The ring is quite thick but tapers sharply at each terminal and these are touching creating an oval hole in the middle of the ring. The ring measures 19mm in diameter and 7mm in thickness at the widest point, and 3mm in thickness at the narrowest point.

Copper alloy cast hook with integral hinge. The hook has a hinge at the top where it was presumably attached to something, it then tapers down (forming a roughly triangular shape) to a pointed hook which is curved outwards. Just above the hook terminal there is a small rounded protrusion on each side, forming a collar. The hook measures 26mm in length, 13mm in width and 2mm in thickness.

Copper alloy Roman Dolphin brooch, dating to the 1st century. The brooch has circular sectioned wings with grooves around their circumference. The bow of the brooch begins over the top of the wings and curves down, tapering to the foot. The brooch has a hinge pin mechanism with only the top part of the pin surviving. On the back of the bow there are several short incised horizontal markings just above the catchplate, a makers mark perhaps(?). The brooch has a central rib down the bow. It measures 50mm in length and 42mm in width (across the wings). The diameter of the wings is 8mm.

Arm fragment of a late medieval or early post-medieval copper alloy purse-bar of London Museum Medieval Catalogue type A1. The purse-bar arm is cast from copper alloy and has a circular section. The arm is decorated with incised double intercrossing diagonal lines. On the bottom edge of the arm is a narrow plate with the remains of two rivets holes from which the fabric of the purse would have hung. A similar example can be seen in the London Museum Medieval Catalogue (Ward-Perkins 1940), figure 50, page 163. The fragment measures 41.5mm in length and 7.5mm in diameter.
