A complete silver double patard (also known as the double plack) of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy (1467-1477). The general description of the coin is as follows: Obv.: shield with the arms of Burgundy +KAROLVS DEI GRA DVX BVRG CO FLA . Rev. Cross fleuretty with diamond-shape at centre SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTVM. In 1469 a monetary convention between Duke Charles and King Edward IV made the former's coinage in the Low Countries legal tender in England. A Medieval cast copper alloy unifaced coin weight for a ryal (rose noble), issued 1464-1470 (Withers and Withers 1995, 19 and 68). The obverse depicts the King with sword and shield standing in a ship with a rose on the hull. Diameter: 17.0mm; weight: 6.92g (106.8 grains). The weight for a ryall is 120 grains. This coin weight is slightly damaged around the edge and this may account for the discrepancy.

CURATOR'S REPORT Site scatter of 35 Roman coins. Circumstance of Discovery 35 Roman coins were found by The Isle of Wight Metal Detecting Club in West Wight, in the Isle of Wight at a small local rally 8 April 2007. They came from an area of grass (which was sown 8 years previously) 50m by 50m and were originally submitted as potential treasure to the Finds Liaison Officer, Frank Basford.
