An incomplete Medieval or post-Medieval composite two-piece copper-alloy button (c. 1230-c. 1600). The head is solid and the separate drawn copper-alloy wire loop is largely missing but remains are embedded in the back. This undecorated button is similar to numbers 1384, 1386 and 1388 in, “Dress Accessories, 1150-1450” (Egan, 1991, figure 178 and p. 274). These are from contexts dated to c.1230-c.1260 (numbers 1384 and 1386) and c.1270-1350 (number 1388). The button recorded here is also similar to numbers 63-72 in “Metal Buttons c. 900 BC - c. A fragment of a Roman ceramic coarse ware cooking vessel (c. AD 43-100). The surviving c. 7% of the beaded rim has a small angled shoulder below. It is estimated that when complete, the outer diameter of the rim would have been about 145.0mm. The outer face is dark grey and the inner face is coarser and lighter. The lower half of the bow, pin shaft, catch-plate, extreme tips of wings and integral chain loop are all missing due to old breaks. An incomplete copper-alloy object of uncertain function and of possible post-Medieval date (c. 1500-c. 1800). This object tapers in width and thickness from a break across a hole to a blunt point. From the pointed end to about halfway along its length the upper face is ‘D’-shaped in cross-section. The remaining part of the upper face is bevelled along the edges. Close to the hole the bevels are ‘notched’ at either side. The object is drab brown and the breaks are old. Length: 58.5mm; width: 8.3mm; thickness: 3.2mm. Weight: 4.77g.

The central feature of this mount is lozenge-shaped with a debased fleur-de-lis moulding projecting outwards from each side of the lozenge. A circular rivet hole at the top and bottom of the lozenge is filled with decayed material. At the bottom of the mount a double pierced lug contains an iron axis bar that a pendant suspended from.
