A fragment of a Roman ceramic coarse ware cooking vessel (c. AD 43-100).
The surviving c. 7% of the beaded rim has a small angled shoulder below. It is estimated that when complete, the outer diameter of the rim would have been about 145.0mm. The outer face is dark grey and the inner face is coarser and lighter. It is tempered with rounded quartz and occasional pieces of flint.

A rim fragment of a Roman ceramic Black Burnished ware vessel, possibly a 'dog-dish' or shallow bowl (c. AD 200-410).
The rim is plain and rounded. Inclusions include abundant sub-rounded translucent quartz and very small flecks of mica. When complete the vessel would have had a diameter of about 260.0mm.
There is now no indication of any burnishing or decoration. The surfaces are dark grey and the core is also dark grey. Darker patches are the remains of marine growth.

A rim sherd of a Roman ceramic cooking pot.
This sherd appears to be Vectis Ware but seems to include grog in the tempering which is not usual. The upper face of the everted rim has three parallel transverse inscribed grooves. The sherd was extracted from the cliff face just beneath the topsoil.

A rim sherd of a Medieval coarse-ware vessel (c. 1200-c. 1400).
This flared bevelled rim has an angular rim and the surface is concave just below the rim on the interior face. It has a grey/off-white core and the surface is orange. It is tempered with rounded quartz, angular flint and some shell. The breaks are old.

A body sherd of Roman ceramic colour coated vessel, probably of New Forest Ware (AD c. 300-c. 370 ).
The fabric is hard and off-white/grey with poorly sorted soft dark grey inclusions. The exterior is matt grey and had two parallel circumferential grooves mid-way down the height of the sherd. The breaks are worn.
The sherd is from close to the rim and it is too small to ascertain its diameter accurately.
This sherd is worn but in good condition.

This fragment is now sub-square in plan and rectangular in cross-section. A small portion of the edge seems to have a finished surface. The upper surface is greyish red, flat and very worn and the underside is red, coarse and uneven. The core is largely grey. The breaks are old but the break shown in cross-section is more recent.

A rim/body sherd of a Roman ceramic Vectis Ware form 19 bowl (c. AD 110-c. 130). Tomalin 1987: 33, 39.
The upper face of the rim is reeded but the reeding is barely discernable due to abrasion. The outer surface is dark grey and the core is pale red. Burnishing has not survived and the breaks are abraded.

A Medieval coarse-ware rim sherd (c. 1200-c. 1400).
The sherd is an everted rim with an external bevel. The bevel is angled downwards and outwards from the top of the rim. It has orange surfaces with a grey core and is tempered with rounded quartz, small pieces of angular flint and pieces of white material which might be chalk.
The inner face has fine linear striations and the breaks are old and abraded.

This vessel is a Vectis Form II (Tomalin 1987: 32-33).
Found on the surface of the beach at the foot of cliffs. The breaks are recent and the surfaces do not have any marine growth, so it has possibly fallen from the cliff slopes recently.

A fragment from the side of a Roman probable East Gaulish industry Samian flanged bowl, similar to Dragendorff form 38 (c. AD 150-250 (Webster 1996: 51).
The fragment is a curved body sherd and part of the base. The fabric is hard fired, dark orange-red, non-micaceous, with sparse very small white inclusions. The surface slip is dark orange-red but is lost in places. The underside of the foot-ring and the base are flat. When complete, the foot-ring would have had a diameter of c. 60.0mm.

A fragment of a Medieval ceramic vessel (c. 1200-c. 1450).
This fragment is part of the base and part of the side. The base is slightly rounded. The fabric is dark buff and contains small pieces of angular white 'sand' or quartz. The outside is unglazed and the inside has splashes of a light green glaze. Decayed off-white and dark purple marine growth adheres to both surfaces. A coarse dark brown deposit at the base contains small rounded stones.
The breaks are abraded.

An incomplete post-Medieval to Modern hollow ceramic object in the form of a stylised bird, possibly an owl (c. 1500-c. 1950).
The head is sub-spherical in form and narrows to the neck. Below the neck it expands in width to form the body and then tapers inwards towards a break.
