An incomplete silver musical wind instrument dating 1724-1725. Treasure case no. 2009 T317 (not Treasure). An incomplete wind instrument made of sheet silver which has been folded to form a truncated cone. The object expands in diameter from the open chamfered mouth-piece towards the end of the object, to which the circular part would have been soldered originally. The body is circular in cross-section throughout its length. The 'flask' or lower part of the body is bulbous (maximum diameter: 22.7mm) with a rounded base. An incomplete cast tin-alloy post-Medieval whistle (1500-1800). One half of a spherical sound box belonging to a small whistle. It has a circular sound hole and a suspension loop. The outer surface has an elaborate raised floral decoration consisting of lines and pellets. Length:14.9mm; maximum diameter: 17.4mm. Weight: 2.40g. The whistle has been designed to resemble a cannon. The closed end of the whistle is cast and is composed of a base ring, a cascabel and a button. The closed end is concave and the opposite open end has a straight break. A small loop soldered on to the body secures a free running silver wire attachment loop.
