A complete but fractured post-Medieval copper-alloy strap fitting, possibly from a sword-belt (c. 1600-c. 1700).
The fitting consists of a plate and a hook.
The flat plate is ovoid or drop-shaped. It has two circular rivet holes along the longitudinal centre-line, one at each end. At the juncture of the plate and hook there are two small projections, one at each side. The forward facing hook is sub-circular in cross-section and has a blunt tip.

An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy hooked strap fitting, probably relating to a sword-belt (c. 1600-c. 1700).
This strap fitting would have had a separate piece of sheet copper-alloy attached to the rear. It consists of an oval plate with a knop at one end. The knop is pierced and accommodates a separate iron rivet, the remains of which are present. At the opposite end there is a break where there was an integral hook. Just above the break there are also the remains of a separate iron rivet.
The front is inscribed with an octofoil (8-petalled flower head) surrounded by a b…

Two post-Medieval copper-alloy sword-belt mounts (c. 1500-c. 1700).
The flat plate of the mount has a tri-lobed end with a narrowed waist underneath. This waist then expands forming rounded shoulders before tapering in width to a second waist that expands out on each side with rounded knops creating a transverse oval shape. Below the oval starts the circular sectioned hook which extends downwards before curving towards the front of the plate and ends in a rounded knop. An incomplete copper-alloy fitting similar to the hook mentioned above hangs from the hook of the plate. The front…

An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy hooked sword-belt fitting (1500-1700).
The hook is missing.
This fitting is flat and shield-shaped, moulded at the front and flat and plain at the rear. There are the remains of an iron rivet at the hook end. The plate is decorated with a symmetrical foliate design in relief, similar to the 'vine scroll' pattern. The design has a central stem with two lateral stems ending in leaves on each side.

A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy strap fitting (c.1600-c.1700).
This looped object is probably from a sword-belt.
The fitting is sub-trapezoidal in plan with a double cusped edge at one end. It tapers in width from 27.7mm to 17.6mm before narrowing abruptly to 8.5mm where it meets the loop. At the front, there is a central longitudinal groove which tapers in width from the cusped end towards the looped end. A sub-circular hole either side of the groove is probably for rivets. The hole of the loop is elongated, probably due to wear. The reverse is flat and plain.
The meta…

A post-Medieval copper-alloy 'S'-shaped 'snake belt' fastener (c. 1550-c.1625).
The fastener is decorated on both faces with animal head terminals and with moulded scale-like decoration. At the centre there is a four-knopped moulded collar.
The object has a coarse drab greenish grey surface.
S-shaped 'snake belt' fasteners were probably associated with sword belts in the 17th and 18th centuries and parallels can be seen in Read's (2008) Hooked-clasps & Eyes: p. 230. However, this example is similar to no. 822 which is dated, perhaps, to c. mid-16th-c. early 17th century. The …

A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy toggle clasp (eye-section) of Read Type 1, from a sword-belt (c. 1600-c. 1700).
This part is the eye-piece through which the toggle on the corresponding section would have fitted. The eye is connected to an integral body with an openwork circle at the centre, trifoliate and bifurcate outer edges and a rivet hole at each end which both contain the remains of iron rivets. The body is delineated from the eye by a raised bar. There is also a raised arched bar at the other end of the eye. Also attached to one side of the eye is a suspension loop.

A post-Medieval to modern copper-alloy strap fitting in the form of an 'S'-shaped belt hook (c.1775-c. 1920).
The hook is in the form of a snake and would have hooked onto fitments at the end of the belt on a military uniform.
The snake's body is pointed-oval in cross-section and is similarly moulded on both sides to emulate scales. The head is mainly obscured by iron corrosion, so the features are not discernable.
This fitting is drab green with some iron staining on the head and body.
