A cast lead shield-shaped trade weight, probably medieval in date (although lead weights remained in use until the 1830s). The rear face is plain, but the front is decorated with a raised moulded heraldic style design of a chevron with 2 motifs above and one below. The motifs are not clear, but could be fleur de lys or maybe shells.

A cast lead weight. The weight is a flat irregular lozenge, plain although slightly concave on the reverse, and with a cast design on the top face. This design has a raised cross with a raised pellet in each quarter. The cross probably also had a central pellet, now damaged, and probably pommee terminals, again now damaged. Biggs and Withers suggest these flat round & square lead weights may have been used in the medieval period to weigh large quantities of silver coinage (maybe in transactions involving large numbers of coins such as rent and tax collection).

A cast lead steelyard weight. The weight is in the shape of a tall narrow square-based pyramid. The is a small circular perforation at the apex of the pyramid to suspend it from the steelyard. The is also small circular indentation in the centre of the base. Steelyards have been used from the Roman period onwards and it is not possible to date this weight precisely.

A fragment of a cast lead object, probably originally a medieval shield-shaped trade weight. The piece is shaped like a flat shield except for missing the top left corner, which is probably missing although the break is not fresh and has oxidised so it is not possible to be certain. One face is plain, the other has raised moulded decoration, which appears to be a shield quartered by a cross and surrounded by radial lines.

A cast lead weight. The weight is an irregular disc with an off-centre perforation ca 7mm in diameter, presumably for suspension as the weight is worn towards one edge. The exact use is unknown but it may have been something like a fishing weight or builder's tool. The date is unknown.

A rectangular copper alloy apothecaries weight. It is marked with the symbol for 2 scruples on one side (a retrograde rounded capital 'E', followed by an 'i' and a 'j'), and '2 scruple' on the other. It should weigh 2.6g, so is slightly underweight. Apothecaries became an independent trade in 1617 and adopted the scruple and drachm measures, but their weights were not legally regulated until 1878-9 (following the Weights and Measures Act). As this is underweight and has no verification mark it probably predates this.

Probably a cast copper alloy trade weight. The weight is a flat disc, stamped on one side with 4 swords, the numeral 8 over the letter S (alternatively the numeral 3 under the letter S?) and the number 20. On the other side there is a stamped V or A at one edge. The sword stamp (the sword of St Paul) is common on 17th/18th century trade weights as the mark of the City of London Guildhall. However there is usually only one, in conjuction with the ewer mark of the Founders Company, a royal cipher and the letter (for Averdepois, the measurement system). It seems probable though that thi…

A cast lead weight, probably a trade weight. Probably originally a flat disc the edge has been cut off. There is a central stamp mark of 3 parallel lines inside a circular border, presumably referring to 3 units of whatever the measure was (ounces?). If it is a trade weight it probably dates from between the late medieval period and the late eighteenth century (after which even provincial weights started to be made in brass until lead was outlawed in the 1830s).

A fragment of a medieval lead shield-shaped trade weight. The fragment consists of the lower triangular shaped end of the weight. The fragment is very regular, but although there is modern plough damage on the edge it seems like a broken not a cut edge. It may however be a deliberate break. The top face of the weight has a raised central panel, and on this was a raised relief decoration. This decoration was probably a fleur de lys, but as the fragment is broken across the middle of device it is not certain. The border around the raised central panel is also decorated, with a rais…
