Description: A medieval gold finger-ring, the hoop of D-shaped section, decorated with a bezel in the form of a small gold applied quatrefoil. Each foil is engraved with lines resembling the veins of a leaf. The ends of the hoop are soldered together, over which the bezel is soldered onto the hoop. The ring is in good condition with only a small area of damage on the hoop. Date: c 14th century Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) on the hoop of the gold finger-ring indicated a surface composition of approximately 75-77% gold, 14-16% silver, the rest being copper. Medieval gold finger ring, with a hoop 26mm long, 14mm wide and 5mm in thickness with a weight of 1.25g. The hoop has a D shaped, bevelled cross section and is decorated on its upper rounded surface with alternate pellet and cross stamps. It has a sub triangular shaped bezel with a circular cross section, 5mm high and in diameter. Where it joins the hoop there are a slight tapering ridges, two on each side emerging from the base of the loop. Roman? or later silver finger ring, 26 mm in diameter, 7mm wide and 3-4mm thick with a weight of 9.61g. The object consists of a thick loop which is decorated with a series of sub triangular transverse ridges , three of which (at cardinal points) are decorated with an incised transverse line, each side of its ridge. The object may be a male finger ring. It was found in a concentration of Roman material whose make up suggests a newly discovered temple site.

Roman ? silver gilt ring fragment, 11mm long, 8mm wide and 3mm thick with a weight of 1.24g. The object comprises about half the bezel of a signet type ring. It is triangular in form and D shaped in cross section. Its wide broken end has a curved recess to take an intaglio and the upper surface is decorated on each edge with a wide concave band which is gilded and inside this is a narrow incised line. These converge as the object narrows to its loop. This is probably matches by a similar one around the edge of the bezel. The object is very worn.

Late Medieval or post Medieval silver finger ring fragment, 17mm long, 9mm wide (at bezel) and 6mm thick (at bezel) The band (3mm wide and 2mm thick) is sub rectangular in form and part merges, part sits below the circular bezel which has thin plain sides, which may have been scalloped? and also contain traces of gilding. The band is decorated on the upper surface just next to the bezel with a rectangular panel filled with incised lines which form small raised squares. Beyond this on one side is a large incised cross.

Post Medieval copper alloy finger ring, 23mm in diameter, 6mm wide and 2mm thick with a weight of 3.88g. The ring has a D shaped cross section and its outer edge is decorated with two solid raised borders ae each edge and in between this is a rounded surface. This has a series of four sub spherical motifs, each divided by two transverse linear depressions. Between these is a plain section of equal length which has a small six pointed star in a circular depression at the centre. The ring is similar HAMP355, which has a date range of 1650-1750 assigned to it.

The ring is complete and has a raised circular bezel sitting on plain triangular shaped shoulders, which taper into a semi-circular cross sectioned loop. The bezel has very faint decoration which now comprises of two sub rectangular depressions set side by side in the centre. The sloping edge of the bezel may have transverse incised lines forming a border, just visible to the left (as shown in upper image). The ring fits Henig type XII.

The ring has a rounded outer surface and is plain except for 4 rectangular recessed boxes which house a raised inscription in Gothic lettering surrounded by cross hatching, which reads IN GOD IS AL . Beverley Nenk has dated this to the 15th century, being similar to an example in the British Museum's collection.
