Medieval iron horseshoe fragment, 91mm long and 20mm wide with a weight of 54g.
The fragment represents just under half a shoe, has a rectangular cross section and a curved tapering form. It has one inner flat edge and the outer edge is 'lobate' with rounded projections. These allow for oval shaped recesses with rectangular holes to accommodate the nails. There are three such holes in the fragment, two of which still contain the rectangular cross sectioned nails. The fragment terminates with a narrow rectangular cross sectioned end which is folded over itself.

Roman, iron fragments, possibly casting waste and waste meterial?
The large piece is an irregular shaped lump, with no signs of working. 72mm long, 47mm wide and 29mm thhick with a weight of 185grams.
The smaller piece has a rectangular section and form with a flat surface with slightly curved edges, creating a hollow underside.
53mm long, 34mm wide and 7mm thick with a weight of 40.97grams.
The objects were found in the same place as a probable Roman knife LEIC-452D16 and a Roman nail LEIC-4576AD, which could imply waste material gathered for recycling.

Roman iron nail mm 76long, 26mm wide (at the head) and 10mm thick with a weight of 34.52 grams.
The nail has a rectangular cross sectioned incomplete shaft 10 x 10mm at the top and tapers in width. It has a rectangular shaped, domed head 26 x26mm.

Roman iron knife blade ? 153mm long, 39mm wide and 6mm thick with a weight of 111 grams.
The blade is in two pieces and has a rectangular cross sectioned tang c.30mm long, which has a sub spherical terminal. The blade has a straight back and is wide, c.40mm, and rounded where it joins the tang, tapering to a point.
The shape suggests it could be Roman in date and it was found in the same area as a Roman nail, LEIC-4576AD cf. Manning 1985, plate 55 or pl 5 (thanks to Ed Wood for the parallel).

Undated Iron bladed object, 118mm long, 53mm wide and 9mm thick with a weight of 80.56grams. The object is L shaped in form and rectangular in cross section. It has a sub triangular shaped 'blade' which appears incomplete, This measures 18mm by 16mm and curves into a rectangular sectioned straight shaft which tapers very gently in width to a curved projecting 'prong' which is 9mm long, 6mm wide and 4mm thick at the tip. This is curved to one side, when viewed from its longest side, and may be to accomodate a handle?

A complete iron and lead pin of post-medieval date. The head is globular in form with a small knop at the apex and traces moulding on each side. This moulding appears to have divided each hemisphere into four sections, each with a knop in the centre, but is now very worn. The stem is narrow and tapers to a sharp point. Group of possible Roman iron nails.The largest weighing 33.01 grams,9mm in width and 120mm in length. It has a bent lozenge shaped head and a tapering shaft.The second biggest measuring at 39.1mm in length and 6mm width, weighing in at 11.08 grams. The smallest of the nails measures 28mm in length,with a width of 4mm and weighing in at 4.87 grams. AD 43-410. They are similar to that of IOW-9D9353!

Post Medieval? Iron cannonball, 95mm in diameter and weighing 1,760 grams (3lb 3.4 oz.). The ball may have been fired as it has a flat patch with scratching (the area reflecting light in the photo).
Although the ball was found at Dadlington, a place long associated with the Battle of Bosworth, it is not believed to be as early as that. However it is interesting that several 'cannonballs' have been noted in this area.

Undated iron tool fragment, the head from a hoe, 99mm long, 38mm wide and 38mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 95grams. It consists of a sub rectangular band with a circular section which tapers in width slightly towards a rectangular sectioned protrusion. This has a sub triangular form whose tapering edges echo the alignment of the band. About halfway down its length the object turns downwards slightly. The object tapers to a point which, when viewed from above splays out, where it would have formed a platform for the blade.

Early medieval copper alloy/iron brooch fragment?, 18mm long, 17mm wide 4mm thick. It is in fair condition with a weight of 2.37grams. The object material resembles iron and where its damaged its structure does look like iron, but it has traces of copper corrosion suggesting it may have copper alloy core? Medieval or post Medieval iron adze, 70mm long, 30mm wide and 25mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 199grams. The object consists of a rectangular head which has a hole through its centre. It has a blade which emerges from one side and tapers outwards, thining to form a wide blade. The object is difficult to date, but its good preservation could suggest its towards the more recent date.

Early Medieval or Medieval iron axe head, 155mm long, 45mm wide at the butt and 55mm high. The object is in fair condition and weighs 736grams. The axe consists of a rectangular shaped butt which has a rectangular shaped recess for a shaft. Each side of the butt has rounded upper and lower edges, giving it a sub circular form from the side. The blade is narrow and widens out towards its tip, flaring downwards on its lower edge. When viewed from above the axe blade appears to be aligned slightly towards the left, though this may be incidental.

Early Medieval? iron spearhead fragment, 260mm long and 70mm wide.
The second object is a sub rectangular fragment, 130mm long with a spherical protrusion near its broken edges and with one intact? flat edge.
The spearhead? and several fragments of iron were sent to Lincoln for x-ray analysis in the hope that a firmer date could be established. But this was inconclusive.

early Medieval iron and gold mount, 31mm long, 16mm wide and 4mm thick. The object is in a fair condition with a brown patina and weighs 7.64grams. It does have a large concretion of corrosion attached to its left side and reverse and its lower right edge is missing, but the gilded decoration is still intact.
