A cast lead hawking whistle, probably post-medieval in date (circa 1650-1850). The whistle is cone shaped, tapering outwards from the open end. The open end of the whistle would have been the mouth piece. By looking inside the whistle one can see that the whistle is only hollow until about half of the way down the interior of the body of the whistle. There is a sheet of lead, dividing this space into two. Either side of this are the sound two holes, which would have allowed the air and therefore sound to pass down the whistle and out through these holes which are visible on the exterio…

A small domestic whetstone, of unknown date (probably medieval). Due to the lack of context it is difficult to date this example, but an identical one can be seen the exhibition of objects found at the excavations of Corfe Castle (Dorset), they were used to sharpen knives and other blades. The stone from which the whetstone has been carved is probably Quartzite. The stone has been chipped and ground into shape and has a chamfered edges. It is rectangular in shape with a square butt end, the opposite terminal has a tapering end. At the butt end there is a hole through the stone.

A large weight made of lead. The weight is tear-drop shaped, but the reverse is completely flat. The weight is undecorated. The lead has gone a light greyish-white colour. Some damage has occurred to the weight as a result of being hit by the plough, as several scratches and scars are evident on the surface of the weight. This weight is possibly medieval, but most probably post-medieval in date. Due to that fact that so few lead weights have been found in archaeological contexts, only a very broad date range can be allocated.

A circular, domed lead weight with no central perforation. The weight is undecorated. There is a small depression on the flat underside. The lead has gone a light greyish-white. Due to a lack of context this weight must remain undated.

A short, bi-conical perforated lead weight, with a flat top and base. The hole which runs through the centre of the weight has a circular section. These weighs are not yet completely understood. It is possible they could have been spindle whorls dating from the medieval period or later, but due to a lack of excavated examples and lack of context this weight must remain undated. The weight is decorated with a spiralling pattern. The weight is complete. The lead is a light whitish-grey colour.
