Reported to the BMAPA/EH (protocol for reporting finds of archaeological interest) Angled piece of steelwork This artefact was found in the drag head of the Arco Humber on the 12th September 2008. It was found during dredging activity in licence area 408, which is in the Humber region. Angled piece of steelwork - possibly used to weight nets or lobster pots Hanson_0191 was described by wharf staff as an angled section of steel work. It measures around 0.8m long and was discovered after it became lodged in the drag head of the Arco Humber.…

An undiagnostic crushed and damaged piece of gilded silver. It is possibly a ferrule, as the object appears to resemble a crushed cylinder. The cylinder is decorated with two parallel raised bands. This piece is undiagnostic and therefore can not be dated.

A silver strip of uncertain date and function. The strip has a square section and tapers in at either end, both terminals are broken and the breaks are irregular. All four sides feature a small patch of cross-hatched markings, possibly machine made. Barry Ager (British Museum) comments that: This object looks fairly modern and the pattern on the sides appear to be made by a machine, this object is therefore not reportable as Treasure.

A silver thimble, squashed flat at the open end, with a badly damaged domed top. The thimble has a rounded top with a single dot in an otherwise undecorated area. The indentations on the side are circular in shape and arranged in a waffle like design. There are three parallel incised lines below the indentations, then below this is a thin, undecorated border. The rim is decorated with another set of three parallel incised lines. This thimble is late 18th – 19th Century in date.

A silver thimble, squashed flat at the open end. The thimble has a rounded top with a series of concentric rings formed from indentations. The indentations on the side are more oval in shape and arranged in a waffle line design. There are three parallel incised lines below the indentations, then below this is a border featuring some floral motifs and drapery. The rim is decorated with another set of three parallel incised lines. This thimble is late 18th – 19th Century in date.

A lead Russian bag or bale seal of post-medieval date. Both sides of the seal contain Russian text in relief. One side reads: [--]B // IEH.3. // H.N. // 1833. The other side reads: II:A. // N.M.MY // NOBb // N.25 . There are holes in the edges of the seal, which would have held the chord. The seal is a mid greyish-white colour and is worn.

A complete set of gold cuff links, probably late Georgian or Victorian in date. Both cuff links survive and are both oval and undecorated. The reverse is concave and in the centre of the reverse a small loop can be seen. A figure of eight loop joins the two cuff links together.

An incomplete iron dress sword. It is a French style dress hilt sword of the nineteenth or early twentieth centuries. The key identifying feature is the kick over at the top of the handle, this is typically French. The folded over guard indicates that this is a dress sword. It had to be folded over so not to damage the dress uniform. The hilt is a half-basket Continental type. The holes in the hilt are for decoration – again this is a French design. A cast lead fabric weight. Circular and flat, with a central circular recess on one face containing two small circular holes, which allow the weight to be sewn in place. These weights were (and are) used to weigh down the hems of curtains, and perhaps also skirts. They seem to have come into use perhaps in the eighteenth century, and are still available to buy today.

A gold finger ring with a black and white cameo. The hoop if the ring is narrow and D-shaped in section. The shoulders are decorated with three incised rings on each side. The bezel is oval, with a hollow back. It has a black backplate sat on top of the gold bezel setting. On top of the black there is a white carved image featuring a female bust. She is facing left and wears a draped head dress. Both the black and the white elements are slightly damaged with scratches and marks. This ring dates to the first half of the 19th Century. Bezel = 11.8mm x 8.7mm x 5.1mm

Treasure case No: 2005 T209 This circular mount for a stone, with petalled border, twisted wire and claw setting is unlikely to be earlier than the late 19th century. The fragmentary bar at the back suggests that it may have served as a sleeve or dress stud. It does not fall within the Treasure Act.
