A cast copper alloy plate fragment probably from a strap fitting or buckle plate. The plate has broken widthways. The plate is an elongated triangle shape, missing its point, due to the break. The wider terminal of the plate contains two rivet holes and the front surface of the plate has been decorated with an incised linear border infilled with a floral design. The terminal with the rivet holes has rounded corners (one is slightly damaged). The reverse is flat and undecorated. This object is probably of post-medieval date, owing to the floral design. However, as earlier early-medieva…

A cast copper alloy buckle, with an intact strap fitting. The buckle is D-shaped, with a basic frame and no pin recess, it would appear to be the case that no pin was associated with this item. The strap fitting is formed from a folded plate of copper alloy, wrapped around the strap bar of the buckle. Both the front and back plate have been cut forming a roughly rectangular shape, with a slightly pointed out edge and a 'fish-tail' terminal. The back plate has broken at the open end. There is a copper alloy rivet through the two plates, the rivet hole survives on the front plate. The p…

A cast copper alloy pendant, probably of medieval date. The pendant is formed from a flat, rectangular plate of copper alloy. One terminal has rounded corners, with a pierced circular loop extending at a 90° angle to the flat plan of the main plate. The front of the plate is decorated with incised horizontal lines, there are eight lines in total and they are formed from incised zigzag markings. A fragment of a cast copper alloy strap fitting of early medieval date. All that remains is a rectangular plate through which two rivets are present. Below this are two bulbous protrusions, most probably the eyes of a beast. The animal depicted is most probably a horse as this was a common feature of early medieval jewellery. The reverse of the fragment is undecorated however a second sheet of copper alloy is present attached by the two rivets. The metal is a mid blackish-brown colour and is worn. The fragment is 14.1mm long, 18.5mm wide, 4.1mm thick and weighs 3.5g.

A cast copper alloy sword belt, strap fitting. The fitting consists of a plate which has been decoratively cut and features a leaf design. The veins of the leaf have been infilled with a black enamel or similar substance. The plate is broken, but retains two rivet holes, each corroded with the remains of an iron rivet. An incomplete cast copper-alloy strap slide, dating to between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. The front face of the slide consists of an oval plate with raised and pinched pointed ends. The points have shallow arrises and there is a large dominant design in the centre. The design features a large incised circle, with a raised circle inside that. A fragment of a cast copper alloy strap fitting, possibly of early-medieval date. However, this identification is largely uncertain, so a post-medieval date can not be ruled out. At the apex of the object there is a single lug, which is set at a 90 degree angle to the rest of the plate. It has a rounded end, which contains an attachment rivet. The rest of the object is formed from a flat plate and has been decorated on either side with incised lines, forming a geometric pattern.
