A cast copper-alloy strap mount dating to the 16th - 18th century. The mount is irregularly shaped (resembling a crude acorn). Two attachment spikes project from the reverse and are bent away from each other. These spikes would have allowed the mount to be attached to a leather strap. The metal has a mid reddish-brown patina and is fairly worn, much of the original surface has been lost.

Cast copper alloy mount. The mount has been formed from a single plate of copper alloy, the plate is domed and the edge of the plate has an incised linear border. The mount has been cast as one piece but its shape is derived from two semi-circles, joins by a waisted strip of copper alloy. The elements on the front are all slightly domed, so on the reverse they appear concave. There is an attachment at either end of the mount. The spikes are all damaged, but would have presumably attached the mount to leather. The surface is mid reddish-brown, but traces of a black lacquer are evident.…
