Copper-alloy belt-mount. It is flat, quite thin (c. 1 mm) and almost square, measuring 33 x 34 mm. There is a copper-alloy rivet in each corner, 3 to 4 mm long, and the mount is decorated with a black-letter lower-case m, probably for the Virgin Mary. The m is on a background decorated with bold rocker-arm engraving, and all is enclosed within an engraved single-line border, which has been drawn with a couple of false starts. The style of the lettering dates it broadly to the 15th century.

17 belt mount attachments (numbered in three rows, from top left to bottom right). All of the artefacts have been cast in copper alloy, in the same shape. The attachments each have a large, hollow backed central hemisphere, with round lobes at the top and bottom; through the lobes of each artefact are rivets, which are flush with the surface. Over the centre of each is incribed decoration. Numbers 1-5 have between four and six horizontal lines around the middle, with vertical lines across these. Numbers 6-10 and 13 have just four to seven horizontal lines. 15 and 17 have just three lin…

A copper alloy mount. The front surface of the mount has been gilded. The mount has an openwork design. In the centre of the mount there is a man’s head. Below his chin there is an upside down fan and above his head a circular projection. Either side of his head, there is a large flower motif. A sub-rectangular shape joins all of these motifs together. The hollow areas at the side of the head, give the mount its openwork design. The mount would have been highly decorated. The reverse is undecorated and ungilded. On the reverse two spikes survive which would have held the mount onto e…

A copper-alloy mount in the shape of a Tudor rose, dating to early post-medieval period. The mount is basically circular with relief decoration. The mount depicts two roses one on top of the other. Each of the two roses has six petals; the petals of the outer rose alternate with projecting transverse ridges, which probably represent sepals. The reverse has two bent spikes projecting from the edges of the mount. There is one spike on either side of the mount, which have been bent over to attach the mount to (probably) leather. The mount was probably used to decorate a horse harness, but…

A cast copper alloy mount, in the shape of an acorn. The mount has a concave reverse with two spikes/hooks extending out from it. The spikes are located on the central axis of the mount, on other end of the object. The spikes are now bent. The mount itself depicts an acorn design. An incised long, around the top of the mount marks one part of the acorn. Two more incised lines (around the centre of the mount) indicate the join on an acorn and a small knop terminal acts as the stump, of the stem which would have attached the acorn to a branch. The object is a shiny mid reddish-brown colo…

A cast lead mount or plaque. The central motif of the plaque is circular, with areas of decorative scrollwork remaining at 10,2 and 4 o’clock around the circle. The scroll work is damaged; therefore it is not possible to ascertain its original extent. Some indistinct decoration remains between the upper two areas of scrollwork. The central element consists of a circle of pellets. Within the circle a greyhound facing left is depicted, sitting on a cushion. The decorative elements are all cast in relief. The reverse is rough and undecorated. There is a small area of iron sta…

A fragment of what appears to be a decorative mount, made of copper alloy, and bearing traces of gilt. The object consists of a thin piece of plate with a spike on the reverse near one end. The spike has been bent over, as have the two broken prongs at the adjacent end. The piece, looking at the obverse, is shaped thus: a central strip, narrowing at the centre, with a lobe either side of the centre (the spike is behind these). At one end the strip has the two narrowing prongs, which may or may not have continued into another part of the artefact. The other end of the strip widens, and …

A cast copper alloy mount. The mount is made up of three decorative features, but it is unclear which way around the mount would have been positioned. This description relates to the attached photograph. There is a tri-lobed fan attached to an area of the mount which resembles a shell, which is attached to a strip of copper alloy, which terminates with a rounded knop. The shell has been decorated with incised lines and the edges of the shell mimic a real shell. There are two hooks/spikes on the reverse of the mount. One either end of the shell. One appears to survive in full, but the o…

Cast copper alloy mount in the shape of a floral cone. Leaves are depicted in high relief, arranged in scrolls around each other, in what seems to be a bouquet. On the reverse are two integral bent over hooks, presumably for attachment to leather. The surface is dark green and fairly smooth. This is probably a decorative brass from a harness, and most likely dates to the 17th-18th centuries.

A cast copper alloy mount with some surviving gilding. This mount is in the baroque style. The mount takes the shape of what appears to be a griffin, complete with body, head, legs and out stretched wings. The gilded surface of the mount is corroded, but the decoration is clear. The griffin/ creature is depicted standing on the ground. The decoration is in raised relief, and there are openwork gaps within the design. The reverse is undecorated and is concave. A medieval silver-gilt mount in the form of a bar, with a central, oval boss with punched decoration. The mount was probably for a girdle, belt or strap. A hole at each end was either to take a rivet or for stitching. The mount probably dates to the 13th or 14th century.

A cast copper alloy mount, probably dating from the medieval to post-medieval period. The mount is shell-shaped and radiating raised lines on the front indicate a shell-like design. The reverse of the mount has a small lump of copper alloy on the lower part of the concave reverse. This would once have formed the means of attachment, but due to corrosion and wear it is undiagnostic. The metal is a dark greyish-green colour and is slightly pitted.

A cast copper alloy mount fragment, possibly the binding from a staff or walking stick. This object consists of a flat, rectangular piece of copper alloy once moulded to form a circle, although the object has now become misshapen. An incised line runs along both edges to form a border. In the centre of the mount there is a prominent hollow boss roughly teardrop in shape. To either side of this there is an attachment hole which may have once held a rivet, although no trace of this survives. The metal is mid grayish green in colour. This mount probably dates to the 15th-17th century.

A cast lead mount or plaque, with a design of a lion passant regardant on a stippled background within a raised rectangular linear frame. It is stylistically very similar to a buckle plate illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1991), figure 500, page 111, which dates to the 13th century, however there is no evidence of any fixings to the reverse of the object therefore its’ exact use remains unknown. The metal is dull greyish white in colour. It possibly dates to the 15th-16th century.

A cast copper alloy Winchester style mount. The object is tongue shaped and decorated in relief. One end has broken off: the break is worn and there is an iron rivet through the opposite end. The reverse is concave. It is not possible to see the decoration clearly due to the worn and incomplete nature of the object, however this mount is similar in shape and design to the Winchester style strap ends figured by Biddle page 499, ref 1059 and probably dates to the 10th- 11th century.
