Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Doncaster
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An early-medieval strap junction or strap mount, dating to the 10th - early 12th Century. The object is formed from a quatrefoil shape with a raised moulding in the centre. The moulding appears to represent a stylised face, with very triangular eyes and nose. Each lobe of the quatrefoil is pierced, to allow the mount to be sewn into position. The reverse is undecorated and there is a concave area behind the head. The metal is a mid brownish-red colour, characteristic for metal work dating from the 10th - early 12th Century.
