A cast copper alloy horse head buckle, dating to the late Roman period, 4th - 5th Century. Only the upper part of the buckle frame survives due to a break. The upper part of the frame is formed from a rounded curve (following the D-shape of a complete frame), the breaks have occurred at the point where the frame curves into the sides. Just above each break is the stylised horse head. Each one facing outwards, neither are decorated. There is a trefoil crest centred between the two heads. An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle is a single looped D-shape with a narrowed and offset strap bar. The buckle has a wide outer edge and is decorated with a moulded wavy design. The underside of the outer edge is concave. The pin is missing. The metal is a dark greenish-brown colour and is worn. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead, p.19 and is dated to circa 1250-1500.

A cast copper alloy single looped buckle. The buckle has a circular frame and measures 21.8mm in diameter, 3.3mm in width and 2.4mm in thickness and weighs 2.9 grams. The buckle is complete, comprising of the frame with the pin attached. The pin is a single piece of cast copper alloy bent around the buckle frame, the pin itself is flat and slightly tapers to a point, the pin is not constricted and there is no pin rest. A cast copper alloy buckle, it has a trapezodial shaped frame and was probably used as a shoe or knee buckle. The frame is decorated and features some moulded designs. The central part of the frame features three collars on either side, with floral motifs either side. The outer edges are rounded and feature pin recesses, decorated with a leave design. The frame is drilled for a separate spindle. The pin, chape and tongue are all missing. This type of buckle dates to 1650-1750. Whitehead, p98.

The buckle is a single looped oval with an ornate outer edge consisting of two pointed lobed knops which flank the constriction for the sheet roller. The strap bar is narrowed and offset. The pin no longer remains. The metal has a mid brownish-green patina and is slightly worn. The buckle is 19.3mm long, 17.4mm wide, 6.6mm thick and weighs 3.9g. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead, p.22, no.96 and is dated to circa 1250-1400.

An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle is small and oval with a circular lobed knop extending from one end. A small break is present in one of the sides. The buckle is undecorated. The metal is a mid brownish-black colour and is worn. The buckle is 18.6mm long, 10.6mm wide, 3.7mm thick and weighs 1.1g. A search through the usual literature could not produce a direct parallel however this buckle is similar in form to an example in Egan & Pritchard, p.61, no.212 though the knop of the Egan example is zoomorphic in form.

The pin no longer remains. The metal has a dark greenish-brown patina and is slightly worn. The buckle is 25.7mm long, 15.3mm wide, 2.9mm thick and weighs 2.4g. A parallel can be seen in Whitehead, p.55, no.314 and is dated to circa 1500-1650.

The outer edge of the loop is pointed and there are two lobed protrusions at either end of the strap bar. The pin no longer remains. The buckle is undecorated but traces of tinning survive on the surface. The metal is a dark silvery-grey colour and is worn. Buckles of this type date to circa 1600-1700. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead, p.82, no.512.

An unusual copper alloy buckle plate of medieval date. The plate is long and rectangular and features attachment fittings at either end which makes it rather unusual. The object comprises a front and a back plate, and is made from a single sheet folded across the middle forming the two plates. There is a notch cut into the fold, apparently a pin slot, in which a copper-alloy bar can be seen still in situ but broken at either end; the rest of any buckle frame is missing. The buckle is a single loop D-shaped buckle, with a rounded and swollen outer edge. A large notch has been cut into the outer edge to form the pin recess. The pin is missing. The strap bar and buckle sides have broken off and the breaks are well worn. The metal is a mid greenish-brown colour and survives in a fair condition. Buckles of this type date to circa 1250-1400. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead, p21-2.
