A cast copper alloy horse head buckle, dating to the late Roman period, 4th - 5th Century. Only the upper part of the buckle frame survives due to a break. The upper part of the frame is formed from a rounded curve (following the D-shape of a complete frame), the breaks have occurred at the point where the frame curves into the sides. Just above each break is the stylised horse head. Each one facing outwards, neither are decorated. There is a trefoil crest centred between the two heads. The buckle has a wide outer edge and is decorated with a moulded wavy design. The underside of the outer edge is concave. The pin is missing. The metal is a dark greenish-brown colour and is worn. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead, p.19 and is dated to circa 1250-1500.

The buckle is complete, comprising of the frame with the pin attached. The pin is a single piece of cast copper alloy bent around the buckle frame, the pin itself is flat and slightly tapers to a point, the pin is not constricted and there is no pin rest. A cast copper alloy buckle, it has a trapezodial shaped frame and was probably used as a shoe or knee buckle. The frame is decorated and features some moulded designs. The central part of the frame features three collars on either side, with floral motifs either side. The outer edges are rounded and feature pin recesses, decorated with a leave design. The frame is drilled for a separate spindle. The pin, chape and tongue are all missing. This type of buckle dates to 1650-1750. Whitehead, p98.

The buckle is a single looped oval with an ornate outer edge consisting of two pointed lobed knops which flank the constriction for the sheet roller. The strap bar is narrowed and offset. The pin no longer remains. The metal has a mid brownish-green patina and is slightly worn. The buckle is 19.3mm long, 17.4mm wide, 6.6mm thick and weighs 3.9g. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead, p.22, no.96 and is dated to circa 1250-1400.

An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle is small and oval with a circular lobed knop extending from one end. A small break is present in one of the sides. The buckle is undecorated. The metal is a mid brownish-black colour and is worn. The buckle is 18.6mm long, 10.6mm wide, 3.7mm thick and weighs 1.1g. A search through the usual literature could not produce a direct parallel however this buckle is similar in form to an example in Egan & Pritchard, p.61, no.212 though the knop of the Egan example is zoomorphic in form.

An unusual copper alloy buckle plate of medieval date. The plate is long and rectangular and features attachment fittings at either end which makes it rather unusual. The object comprises a front and a back plate, and is made from a single sheet folded across the middle forming the two plates. There is a notch cut into the fold, apparently a pin slot, in which a copper-alloy bar can be seen still in situ but broken at either end; the rest of any buckle frame is missing. A copper-alloy buckle plate in the form of a capital M.The outer arm of the M has been cut in a scroll-like design, whilst the central one is more solid. One arm has broken off and the break is very worn. At the top of the object the plate has been bent over itself to form a hinge, with a slot through the centre. A cast copper alloy single looped oval buckle, with an integral plate. There is a hole through the plate, which still contains the wrap around pin. The strap bar element of the plate, is decorated with two lobes on either side, with an incised line decorating the front surface. There is a rivet hole through the plate, but it is at this point where the break occurs. The metal is a mid brownish-green. These buckles date from circa AD 1250 - 1400. An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle has a broken single loop with an integral forked spacer. The pin is missing. There is a hole drilled through the strap bar. Both prongs of the forked spacer are broken. The metal is a dark brownis-green colour and is very worn, but hevaily filed. Buckles of this type date to circa 1350-1450. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead, p.36, no.214.

A cast copper alloy chape from a buckle. The chape was attached to the iron spindle from a drilled frame shoe or knee buckle. One of the tubes through which the spindle ran survives, the other is damaged. The chape is formed from a flat plate, which tapers towards before extending into three lobes. Whitehead (2003) page 96-7 suggests this form of chape was predominently used on shoe or knee buckles from circa 1660-1720.

The outer edge is decorated with a series of three incised lines, each radiating from a central point. The strap bar is narrowed and offset. The pin no longer remains. The metal is a mid greenish-brown colour and is worn. Buckles of this type date to circa 1250-1450.

An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle is a single loop oval with an ornate outer edge comprising four lobed knops dividing four transverse ridges, the central smaller two furnish a notch for the pin. The pin is missing. The strap bar is narrowed and offset and has two knops at either end. The metal is a mid greenish-brown colour and survives in good condition. Buckles of this type date to circa 1250-1400. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead, p22.

Cast copper alloy rectangular shoe or knee buckle with drilled frame for separate spindle. The spindle, chape, tongue, tongue and pin are all missing. The frame has been decoratively incised with linear markings. This buckle dates to around 1600-1750.

An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The buckle is and asymmetrical double loop with moulded decoration on the loops. The outside edge of the rectangular loop has six lobed knops of decoration. The outer edge of the rounded loop has lobed knops at two symmetrical points. Two further lobed protrusions extend from either end of the strap bar. The pin is missing. The metal is a mid brownish-green colour and is worn. Buckles of this type date to 1575-1700. A similar example can be seen in Whitehead, p.92, no.577.

A cast copper alloy strap slide. The strap slide is trapezodial in shape. The front edge of the slide is wide with a rounded blub half way along the edge of the frame. Two pointed lips project into the fitting, nearest to the strap bar. This dates to the 14th - 17th Century.
