A cast copper alloy sub-rectangular shoe buckle, with a drilled frame for separate spindle. The spindle, chape, pin and tongue are all missing. There is no pin recess on the frame. The buckle is a mid greenish-brown colour and the surface is slightly pitted. These buckles date from circa 1690 - 1720. Parallels for this type of buckle can be seen in Whitehead, 2003, p102.

An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle, which is heavily corroded. The buckle is rectangular, with square projections on the short edges. The longer edges have been decoratively moulded. The separate spindle is missing. The frame is pitted and corroded. The metal is a mid reddish-brown colour. This buckle is post-medieval in date.

One plate from a cast copper alloy folded buckle plate, dating from 1250 – 1400. Only the front of this rectangular buckle plate made from sheeting remains. It is broken off at the pin slot leaving two small projections. It would have been fixed to the strap with three rivets only one of these (a large dome headed rivet) remains. The two remaining rivet holes appear to have been re-formed in a crude fashion and the plate has probably been reused. A cast copper alloy plate which is rectangular with denticulate edges. It is likely that the plate once formed part of a buckle plate. The front surface has been decorated with curved markings, made up of fine punch marks. There is a hole (presumably for a rivet) in the centre. The reverse of the plate is undecorated. The metal is a dark jade-green colour. From the decoration this object can be dated to the 13th – 14th Century.

The pin is missing. The terminals of the D-shaped frame extend beyond the strap bar. The metal has lost most of its original surface and the metal is a light reddish-brown colour and is heavily pitted. This type of buckle dates from the early-medieval period. It probably dates to the late 8th – 12th century.

Cast copper-alloy sub rectangular shoe buckle, dating to c.1690-1720. Only the frame of the buckle remains, this appears to have holes drilled through each longer side which would have originally held a seperate spindle. This, the pin and the chape have now both been lost. The frame is slightly curved. It is roughly rectangular in shape, with curved corners. The pin survives and it has a flattened section and a closed loop. Most of the original surface survives and the metal is a dark greyish-green colour and is slightly pitted. This type of buckle dates from circa 1250 – 1500. Parallels for this type of buckle can be seen in Whitehead, 2003, p18.
