A cast copper alloy object, surviving in two pieces. The object could be a Roman bracelet, but it is more likely to be a medieval brooch. The object is formed from a twisted strip of copper alloy wire. There is a step in the strip - which could indicate that that is a pin construction and therefore the object is a brooch.
The metal is a dark brownish-grey colour.

A cast copper alloy annular brooch.
The brooch frame is circular, with a lozenge-shaped section and a bevelled edge. There is a pin constriction. The pin remains intact and in situ; and sits inside the pin constriction. There is no pin recess on the opposite edge of the frame. Neither surface of the brooch appears decorated. A similar brooch can be seen in Egan & Pritchard, p249, 1309. It is therefore medieval in date.

The lower ring still contains the pin from the centre of the spring. This area is also heavily corroded with iron staining. To the right of the ring, three turns of the spring can …

Description:
A silver medieval annular brooch. The brooch has a chamfered front surface, which is higher on the interior edge and tapers down to the outer edge. The reverse is flat. There is a pin constriction in the annular frame for the pin. Either side of this constriction there is a flat surface on the front of the brooch, this extends for approximately 6.5mm on both sides and then some filing has taken place - where the front surface becomes chamfered.
The pin survives intact, to a length of 24.2mm. The pin has been neatly looped around the pin constriction. It is slightly D-…

An incomplete copper alloy Roman zoomorphic brooch in the form of a bird.
It is 31.26mm in length (from beak to tail) and max.17.5mm wide (across the wings). It weighs 1.9g. The body itself is rather flat and does not stand very high, max.2.7mm. The body is flat and undecorated, but the metal is heavily corroded which could have obscured any decoration. The wings extend out from the side of the body, whilst the tail and head extend from either end; all of the extensions are badly worn and damaged. The head is raised from the body, but again all of the details are lost.

Fragment, comprising part of the head-plate and upper half of the bow, of a cast copper alloy Anglo-Saxon great square-headed brooch. The surviving part of the head-plate has a rectangular inner panel bearing scrolled decoration. The bow is divided longitudinally into two panels bearing zoomorphic ornament. The stumps of a pair of cast perforated lugs are present on the back of the head-plate; the iron spring/pin mechanism would have been attached to these. Some iron corrosion is present on the reverse around these lugs and probably represents the remains of the spring/pin. The head-p…
