An iron spear, weighing 227g.
The spear comprises three elements. It has a square sectioned, tapering tang which would have fitted into a shaft. This has been hammered from the middle circular sectioned part of the spear. The spear head is leaf-shaped with a raised ridge running down either side. The tip is broken.
It is probably a spearhead brought to this country from India or Africa.
A search through the usual literature on spearhead found no British parallel for the tanged shaft but there was an African weapon with similar shaped blades and with bindings around their shafts …

A Roman spear-head dating to the mid 1st century AD. The spearhead fits into Manning’s Group 1A classification and it is a small-bladed spearhead.
The spearhead has been carefully made with a welded socket. The socket is a closed type, but now has a damaged mouth due to corrosion. The mouth of the socket measures 30.27mm in diameter. The socket is 91.76mm in length.
The blade is leaf-shaped, with rounded edges and rounded shoulders. The section on the blade is flat on both surfaces. The blade has blunt edges and a damaged tip. The blade measures 47.17mm x 57.66 mm.
