An Iron Age silver unit of eastern Gaul. Delestree & Tache 3195ff Philip de Jersey comments: "It's a fairly common type from eastern Gaul, probably from the territory of the Lingones or the Aedui, with the inscription 'Kaletedou' in Greek script on the reverse. The inscription soon becomes blundered and you end up with not much more than KA over the horse and a variety of symbols below. The coinage was produced over a long period, from the late second century BC through into the mid-first century BC, and I would guess that this one is later rather than earlier, so perhaps c. 75 BC

A La Tène III type, Nauheim-derivative brooch. Copper-alloy Iron Age to early Roman brooch AD 25-100. This brooch is incomplete; it is missing the pin. A fragment possibly from an incomplete copper-alloy Iron Age or Roman terret ring. All that survives of the object is the bottom of the loop, through which the rein would have passed and the top of the skirt. The bottom of the loop has broken on both sides and is extremely corroded and worn. The loop is joined directly to the upper part of the skirt, which is rectangular in shape and hollow. Terret rings were attached to chariots, carts or wagons and served as rein-guides. They helped guide in reins from the horses harness to the rider/charioteers hands. The terret would have been…

A cast copper alloy highly decorative object, probably a handle from a bronze/ copper alloy vessel. The object was taken to the British Museum where Jody Joy (Iron Age curator) and Ralph Jackson (Roman curator) felt that it dated from the very end of the 1st Century BC to the early part of the 1st Century AD. It is therefore very late Iron Age to very early Roman in date. They noticed that the style is Roman (especially the creature's eye) but the metal working style looks Iron Age. Some similar vessel handle and fitting were found in a German publication, but the best parallel can be…

A cast copper alloy toggle, daing to the Late Iron Age. The toggle is formed from two main elements; one being a sub-triangular loop, with well rounded corners. Cast integrally to this loop is a rounded hollow collar. It appears to be a variation of the button and loop fasteners discussed by Wild (1970). The object retains some of its original surface; it is worn with a mid greyish-green patina. The surface is heavily pitted.
