Treasure case : 2007 T559 A small gold decorated disc. Small gold decorated disc. The gold circular disc was bent over itself so that only approximately two thirds of the original form remained flat. Object type: SPEARHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Fragment, copper-alloy spearhead probably dating from the Middle or Late Bronze Age, about 1550 – 800 BC. The mib-rib and the wings are intact, but the entire object is worn and corroded. The blade edge has been lost due to damage and corrosion. The object has a dark green patina with patches of copper corrosion products. An insufficient portion of the spearhead remains to prove diagnostic, therefore a specific type cannot be attributed, though it is probably comparable with the range of spearheads in Davis Groups 6-11.

Workflow stage: Published Find published
A silver droplet of metalworking waste of the Anglo-Scandinavian period. Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate silver content for the droplet of 92%, the remainder being gold with small amounts of copper and lead; it weighs 1.13 grams. The droplet represents a fragment of metalworking debris; length, 9 mm. It is most likely associated with other material evidence for silver and bronze working on the site, which was occupied by a Viking camp during 872/73, although a 10th-century or slightly later date is equally possible.
