Object type: SEAL BOX
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast copper-alloy Roman seal box lid. The fragment comprises the sub-circular lid and the hinged loop which has been cast integrally to the reverse of the lid, at a 90 degree angle. It is square and pierced. The lid is flat, with abrasions to the edges; this has resulted in a lot of the edge detailing being worn away. There is a punched border, formed from a series of punched dots. In the centre of the lid there is a cross, also formed from punched dots. The four arms of the cross terminate with three dots in a row. The metal is corroded with a dark brownish-green colour.
