A short, bi-conical perforated lead weight, with a flat top and base. The hole which runs through the centre of the weight has a circular section. These weighs are not yet completely understood. It is possible they could have been spindle whorls dating from the medieval period or later, but due to a lack of excavated examples and lack of context this weight must remain undated. The weight is decorated with a prominent central rib and raised triangles; there are pellets in alternate fields in one hemisphere and pellts in every field in the other hemisphere. The weight is complete. The …

Viking-age weight made from copper alloy with an iron core. The weight is roughly globular, with some flattened facets. One of the flattened facets is decorated with a ring made up of small stamped circles. Inside the ring is a swastika motif, but part of the motif has worn away revealing the brassy colouring of the metal. Opposite this there is a large lump of cracked and damaged copper alloy. A small cast lead weight. The weight has rounded edges and the base has had lead removed from it, presumably to make it the correct weight for weighing. Into the top of the weight a styca coin has been pressed. The coin is not identifiable. The lead is a light greyish-brown colour. A similar weight can be seen in Pirie, p282. This weight is in the Yorkshire Museum's collection.
