A lead plug or pot mend for a ceramic vessel. On one side is a flat irregular sub oval surface, measuring 20.1mm by 15.18mm. On the other side is a smaller oval plug 16.84mm by 11.44mm. The two plugs are joined by an integral irregular ‘neck’ making the object 11.16mm long. The object weighs 10.30g. Sandwiched between the two plugs is a fragment of the original ceramic vessel. This has a black core that is clearly shell tempered. Dr Paul Sealey kindly suggested that this would date the vessel to the 4th century. Pot mends used melted lead to fill holes in damaged ceramic vessels…

Complete lead alnage seal, probably of James II. The seal is complete, though worn and is formed from two circular discs joined by a rectangular strip or tag of lead, which was then folded over the edge of cloth, so that the discs align. One disc is moulded with a lion facing left with 2 ½ below, for the two and a half pence subsidy rate, within a border of dots. The opposite disc is moulded with a bust facing right, presumably James II, within a border of dots and seemingly no legend. The lead survives in good condition and is a creamy white. Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Incomplete medieval lead ceiling or furniture mount. The mount takes the form of the Yorkist sun, which would have had six wavy rays or arms when complete. What survive on this object are four complete rays with two entirely missing. They are bevelled to the upper face and flat to the reverse, giving each arm a sub triangular section. A raised line runs along the raised apex on each ray. These raised lines run out from a simple raised circle at the centre of the rays. There are two raised pellets at the base of each ray, which in effect circle the central raised circle. There does not …

Cast copper alloy lead weight. The weight is conical. It is 25.68mm high, 15.4mm in diameter at the broad end and weighs 26.71g. The broad end is slightly concave and has a central circular perforation, which seems to run for the length of the object. Similar weights have been recorded with the PAS, notably LEIC-D7D5C7, which has the same circular perforation and lack of iron suspension loop. It is most likely, as with that example, that this weight was used …

Lead token. Circular in plan, the token is decorated with a raised cross with arms that terminate in a pellet and with one pellet in each angle, all within a raised border. The reverse of the object is decorated with a raised design, possibly of a bird. Despite the medieval coin echoes in the motif, and given the realtive good survival, this token is probably 17th century in date. A similar 17th century token can be seen in Bailey, 2000, Finds Identified, page 15, figure 21.
