Cast copper alloy open-work mount, probably Roman. The mount is circular in plan and domed in section. It has a moulded rim around the edge of the mount and double incised lines to the centre and top of the mount, which create a circle of 10.66mm in diameter. The mount has four piercings set around the incised central circle. These take the form of two pairs of convergent comma shapes, set opposite each other. Otherwise the mount is plain. Incomplete copper alloy, one piece ‘Colchester’ type late Iron Age to early Roman brooch. The wings of the brooch are complete. The forward facing hook is truncated and worn. Behind the head of the brooch, below the remains of the forward facing hook, is a short backward facing ‘hook’ that is the remains of the integral spring coil. The spring coil and pin shaft are otherwise entirely missing. The bow is sub circular in section and is flat at the back. It is complete and ends in a blunt point, which is slightly damaged.
