Cast copper alloy mount. This mount is a heavy-duty suspension loop from a large bucket or bucket like object (tub or vat?). It is cast in one piece. The main body is rectangular with diagonal corners. One end is slightly damaged and missing the lower corner. At either end of the main body is a single large rivet hole, one incomplete due to the aforementioned damage. Both copper alloy rivets survive intact. One has a broad flat rove, whilst the other is almost half the size. Extending from the top of the main body is the integral suspension loop. It is set against the main body with an…

Unidentified cast copper alloy object. This object consists of a shaft that is semicircular in section, being domed with a flat reverse. The main body of the shaft is broken at one end, and though the break edge is not fresh, is not worn smooth, suggesting damage occurred in the more recent past. The surviving portion of shaft is moulded with two integral collars, about 6mm apart, with a smaller integral collar moulded halfway between. Beyond the final collar is an integral terminal, which is essentially subrectangular in plan, with rounded corners and which is wasted. This gives it th…

Unidentified object or possible hinge. Copper-alloy object, now rather corroded. It is basically flat and rectangular, 43 x 20 mm, and broken at one end. A groove runs along either long edge, and the front is divided into three fields by two longitudinal ridges, each of which is transversely ribbed on the top. The ridges and grooves run up to a pair of hinge loops at the complete end, apparently cast into shape onto the front of the object. Each one is as wide as the outer field, and they enclose an iron hinge bar. In between the hinge loops is the stub of a surviving pin, probab…

Fragment of copper alloy pin. Very narrow circular-sectioned shaft with regularly-spaced transverse notches along the existing length of one face of the shaft. Mid grey with occasional patches of bright green corrosion. It is 38.52mm long, has a diameter of 1.05mm and weighs 0.21g. Slightly pitted surfaces, some bright green corrosion within some of the notched decorations. No parallel could be found for this pin with its very narrow shaft and unusual regular decoration along its length, in Cool’s typology (1990) or from the Colchester report (Crummy 1983).

Fragment of unidentified copper alloy object. This object consists of a flat subcircular plate, which is chipped and damaged, from which frontally extends a ‘prong’ of metal that is subtriangular in section. The ‘prong’ is decorated with a moulded triangular collar approximately half way along its length, and is less thick between this collar and the plate, than beyond the collar on the other side. The ‘prong’ is clearly broken along its length, though the break edge is worn smooth and appears even. This also suggests damage occurred in antiquity. To the reverse of the plat…
