Incomplete copper alloy 8 maravedis of Philip III (1598-1621) of Spain, perhaps countermarked as there seems to be numerals (IV?) over the usual castle on the obverse. This may be VIII backwards, but the amount of corrosion on the surface makes it unclear. "The plentiful sixteenth and early seventeenth century Spanish copper coinage underwent repeated revaluations as a result of inflation under Philip IV (1621-1665)."
