Copper alloy French jetton or reckoning counter, depicting the shield of France on the obverse, which dates it to c.1415-1437, struck in Tournai, probably after 1423 when King Charles VII of France (1422-1461) introduced the silver Blanc à la coronelle (coin). Mitchener (1988) illustrates a similar example on page 227, No.688. Jettons first appeared in England during the reign of Edward I (1271-1307) and carried on to the end of the reign of Richard II (1377-1399).
