Flint snapped end scraper, semi-circular in plan, triangular in section and in profile. The proximal end and both sides of the dorsal face have been unimarignally retouched. There is also a nick in the right edge of the dorsal face, but this is probably due to damage and not deliberate. The scraper may have been broken through use if enough pressure was applied to shear it off from the other half that was still held in the haft. Alternatively, it may have been broken since being deposited through coming into contact with agricultural machinery. See CORN-2286F2 and CORN-24A3D6 for si…

Flint leaf-shaped arrowhead, lozenge-shaped in plan, profile and triangular in section. The arrowhead has been worked on all margins of the dorsal face, but has been more extensively worked towards the distal end, particularly along the left margin. The proximal end has been waisted to be better used for hafting, and has been broken off above the bulb of percussion, on the ventral face. The flint is a grey brown colour and translucent, and was probably knapped from a local beach pebble. The length to breadth ratio is about 3:2. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 14…

The ventral face retains the bulb of percussion at the proximal end. The flint is a mottled light grey to brown colour, made from a local beach pebble, with the orignal cortex remaining along the left edge of the dorsal face, from the distal to the proximal end. The proximal end has been snapped off at the base of the bulb of percussion. The flint is a mottled light to dark grey colour, probably made from a local beach pebble. There is a thin sliver of cortex running from the medial ridge to the left edge of the dorsal face at the distal end, suggesting that the scraper was made from a secondary flake. The proximal end has been snapped off at the base of the bulb of percussion. The flint is a mottled dark grey colour with white specs, probably made from a local beach pebble. Incomplete doleritic greenstone cushion macehead or shafthole adze, oval in plan, tapering slightly towards one end, and lozenge-shaped in profile and section. Both ends have been worked to form an edge which could have been used for chopping as well as hammering. The implement has been worked from a beach cobble and would have been collected from the coast. It would have then been pecked and ground into shape and the central hole bored by using sand and a drill. The shaft is 30 mm in diameter and is circular in plan and has a slight 'hour-glass' shape in profile suggesting that it has…

The flint is slightly translucent and grey in colour with a small fragment of cortex remaining on the left margin of the dorsal face at the proximal end. Flint plano-convex pointed knife, lozenge-shaped in plan, semi-circular in profile and triangular in section. Both the lateral margins and the distal and the proximal ends are worked on the dorsal face. These are finely retouched with what appears to be pressure flaking. The remains of surface gloss on the right edge of the dorsal face of the knife shows that it was used against organic matter. The flint is a mottled light grey to translucent brown colour and could therefore be made from local flint sources. The length to breadth ratio is a bit more than 3:1. Bond (2004) illustra…

Some cortex remains on the opposite margins, the left margin of the dorsal face and the right margin of the ventral face. Chert axe head, triangular in plan and lozenge-shaped in profile and section. The axe has been bifacially worked throughout and both margins have been retouched on both faces. The hafted end of the axe, opposite the blade, is flat and probably forms part of the original platform for working the axe. There are polished areas, due to use, on both faces of the axe, on and above the blade edge, and patches of iron staining on the surface. The chert is honey-coloured and is typical of the greensand chert found on the south coast of Devon and Dorset. So this axe was probably imported, eit…

Fragment of a flint flake with a tang at the proximal end, triangular in plan, lozenge-shaped in section and almost flat in profile. The flake may be waste after an attempt was made to work it into a transverse arrowhead or a serrated blade or saw. There is some evidence of working on the right margin of the dorsal face and the right margin of the ventral face, in order to create the tang, but the upper edges are just nicked naturally. A slight medial ridge has also been created on both faces, but these appear to be defined by the conchoidal fractures emanating away from the impacts of…
