The two 'v's are written as 'u's and the letters 'f' and 's' are elongated. There is a possible maker's mark in the form of a very worn stamped 'H' between the beginning and end of the inscription. Flat, silver, angular shield-shaped object inscribed WC 1643, the date and the owner's initials, within an engraved linear border with multiple transverse lines. The heads of two separate silver rivets are flush with the front face and their shanks bent over onto the reverse. Probably part of a hawking vervel, although normally the shield-shaped plate and the ring are joined with solder. 1643 AD.

Circular, with a convex front with decoration cast in low relief consisting of a crowned female bust facing forwards, with flowing hair, a beaded necklace with a pendant and details of the collar and shoulders of a dress with a plunging neckline. The decoration, particularly the details of the face, is worn. The reverse is slightly damaged, and appears to have been hollow. The shank and loop are missing. Diameter 13mm. Thickness 3.5mm. Weight 1.0g. Circa 17th century.

An incomplete silver bar mount. There is a rectangular sectioned, circular terminal at one end, pierced and countersunk for a missing rivet. The rest of the mount is 'D' sectioned, flat and plain on the reverse, with cast decoration on the front consisting of transverse mouldings, a boss in the form of a four petelled flower, bands of pellets and a segmented moulding. The mount terminates in a transverse break. Surviving length 21mm. Width 6mm. Thickness 3mm. Weight 1.7g. 16th - 17th century.

Fragment of silver spoon consisting of a small length of stem of irregular hexagonal section, a triple collar of similar section and a wrythen knop. Wrythen-knopped spoons were popular over a short period in the late 15th and early 16th centuries (Gask 1926, 50-1). Date: Late 15th or early 16th century. Dimensions: Length greater than 24.5mm. Width of knop 10mm, of stem 5mm. Weight 6.73g. The age and precious metal content of this item therefore qualify it as treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. Dr. A. Rogerson

Post-medieval crotal bell. Rectangular loop with cast hole, two large holes in the upper half, prominant, narrow median rib, round-ended slot in base, corroded iron pea. Very worn cast decoration is visible on the lower half only in the form of a sunburst or gadrooning, with initials (H and a possible I) within a semicircular field to one side of the slot. A fragment of a silver halfcrown of Charles I. The obverse has been filed smooth and the border containing the reverse legend has been removed, leaving a round garnished shield containing the arms of Great Britain. The resulting disc has been pierced centrally for use as a mount of some sort. An incomplete and distorted silver thimble. The top is missing and the remaining sides have been cut or broken vertically and folded twice. Most of the external surface is covered with closely spaced lines of punched squares forming a waffle pattern with a plain border above and below. There is an engraved inscription around the base between two engraved lines ] VSE * VERtEV[ ('use virtue' or possibly 'use virtuously'). The rest of the border, and therefore any further letters in the inscription, are obscured by the folded metal. Height 22.7mm. Weight 3.9g.17th century.

A gold finger ring, now distorted. A mourning ring with a shallow D-sectioned band, decorated with a simple stylised skull with teeth, eye sockets and nasal cavity, but missing the mandible. Two tiny particles of black may be all that remains of black enamel, but thet are too small to be certain. Inscribed internally RH oB 17 ° oct 87 (RH died 17th October 1687). At the beginning of the inscription is a stamped makers mark, an H within a square, or possibly an I with wide crossbars, set obliquely. Width of band 4mm. Weight 3.04g. Date: 1687

A late medieval or early post-medieval silver gilt finger ring. The band expands slightly from the back of the hoop to the bezel, which consists of a single collet. Three separate claws have been inserted through the sides of the collet and soldered into position internally, the external ends of which are broken and distorted. The stone is missing. An incomplete cast copper alloy drop handle with a trapezoidal suspension / attachment loop, with short spiked projections to either side above a constriction before expanding to a rectangular plate which is decorated with a slightly raised triangular panel. The plate terminates in an irregular transverse break. Surviving length 36mm. Width 16mm. For similar examples see Read (1995, 162, no.1086) and Macquoid and Edwards (1954, vol.II, 303, fig.16a), c. 1660 - 1710.
