Middle or Late Saxon silver strap-end of Thomas' (2003) Class B, Type 1. Broken across the base of a wedge-shaped rectangular-sectioned split end, below which the body is oval-sectioned, becoming circular-sectioned as it tapers to a blunt point. The body is decorated with three groups of three encircling transverse grooves, with a transverse groove on each face of the surviving split end. Neolithic flint pick. Dimensions 416 x 66 x 49mm. Brown staining over dark grey / black flint. Rhombic section with sharp ridge on one face, largely formed by a natural cleavage plane (ancient frost fracture), the other face flaked entirely with a more rounded medial ridge. The dark brown patination suggests a probable peaty deposition, there is a trace of concretion on one face, most likely an accumulation of iron oxides and grit. Late Bronze Age socketed axe head. Broken across the base of the socket, upper part missing, flaring from the break to a crescentic cutting edge. The surface is very worn, corroded and pitted with only patches of brown patina surviving. There appears to be a median longitudinal arris or rib on both faces, although the level of corrosion makes it difficult to be certain. Surviving width of cutting edge 48mm. Surviving length 50mm. Surviving thickness 16mm. Weight 99.4g.

Medieval silver brooch with circular, open frame, almost circular-sectioned with slight flattening on the inside, inlaid with niello in a combination of encircling and criss-crossed lines, now very worn in places. A medieval gilded silver annular brooch. The openwork frame is flat sectioned, consisting of an internal ring with sixteen conjoined scallop-shell or fan-shaped projections (eleven of which survive) around the outer edge with a small circular hole between each one. Silver pendant shield with an integral loop at the apex, probably a vervel of Lewis and Richardson type C.iii. The shield is engraved on both faces: Fr Man / nock of / giffardes / hall // in Stoke / in Suf. / esquire . Two similar objects are illustrated in the Treasure Annual Report 2004 nos.319-320. Late Medieval or post-medieval copper alloy buckle, in two pieces, half of one loop missing. Double-oval frame, flat on the reverse, with deep, slightly angled transverse grooves on the front face. Narrowed bar with very slight traces of iron corrosion from the (missing) pin. Measuring 40 x 33mm. For a similar example with less well defined grooves see Egan and Pritchard (2002, 83, pl .50, no.342), from an early 15th century context.

Post-medieval toy. Two dimensional cast lead horses head, broken across the neck, with details of bridle, reins and mane on both sides. The neck and head are stretched perhaps indicating the horse was depicted in full gallop. Arms: Despenser (possibly) Medieval copper alloy incomplete possible horse harness mount, bent and broken thin (c. 0.5mm) circular sheet plate much of outside edge missing, diameter greater than 26mm. The plate is engraved with a shield bearing Quarterly 2 and 3 fretty overall a bend. Although the tinctures are absent the arms depicted are most likely to be those of DESPENSER (Quarterly Argent and Gules fretty Or overall a bend Sable), Cf. Wagner (1972) 50 and Plate VII, no.31. 13th-14th century.

The original find of the Bawdeswell hoard, consisting of a socketed knife and two socketed axes, all of late Bronze Age date. 1. Fragment of socketed knife. Rectangular sectioned socket with very slightly concave sides and broken across a hole in either face for hafting. Livery badge, the face is very worn, cast in the form of a crest: an (possibly) Englishman's (or 'savage's') head affronty wreathed and cooped beneath the shoulders wearing toga-like dress secured by a trefoil clasp on the sinister shoulder, on a torse or crest wreath. The reverse is hollow and has traces of solder at the top and on both sides at the base for separate wire loops or spikes for attachment. 27 x 39mm. 16th-18th century. Compare LANCUM-61F133 and NMS-A14532, both of which are perhaps slightly earlier than this example.

Middle Saxon gilt copper alloy rectangular sword-belt mount. The scalloped sides, the ends and especially the corners are worn, and there are no extant fixing holes. A centrally placed transverse row of four silver rivets with convex heads and copper alloy washers divides two areas of deep "chip carved" Tassilo style zoomorphic ornament. Very similar to a mount from Tacolneston (HER 23698, Gurney 2003, 365, fig. 5D) and comparable with examples from Germany (Eggenstein et al. 2008, 194-8, Kat.
