Description: Three fragments of a medieval silver sheet object, possibly a scabbard chape, dating to c. AD 1200-1300. All three are decorated on one face with fields defined by engraved lines and filled with either rocker-arm engraving or niello. The other face is undecorated. The original find was too fragmentary to discern a possible pattern; the addition of two joining pieces show that there appears to be an abstract foliate design. Circular openwork front-plate with a large octofoil aperture, the outer edge with multiple closely spaced notches forming a scalloped edge. Unidentified object. Two cast silver rings, one D-sectioned (external diameter 12mm, internal diameter 9mm) the other circular-sectioned (external diameter 11mm, internal diameter 7mm), linked by a strip of silver forming a triple ribbed loop (width 3mm), the ends of which are tapered, twisted and broken. It is possible that the twisted ends of the connecting loop were inserted into leather or cloth leaving the two rings to act as suspension loops, although the fitting would have been unable to take much weight. Date: Probably medieval. Dimensions: Weight 2.0g.

Fragment of gold sheet from an unidentified object. The sheet is folded forming a front and back-plate the edges of which are torn, except for the lower edge of the back-plate which appears neatly cut, and the straight folded edge. The front-plate is decorated with a row of stamped dots above a row of repoussé pellets parallel with the folded edge, the lower edge possibly torn along a third row of pellets or dots. Copper alloy flat disc stamped on one face with 12 triangles in a circle, points facing inwards, around a very slightly raised circular moulding around a central rectangular hole. Plain on the reverse. There is a very small amount of possible decayed enamel on one triangle. Rectangular-sectioned trefoil projection (one small central foil with a longer, downward curving foil to either side) on the outside of an originally circular frame almost all of which is missing. An apparently scrap piece of spilled or run-off lead with a simple cross (three short and one long arm) in high relief on one side, and a rectangular stamp with a low relief crown above G3R for George III.. Broken across the edge of a second stamp. Length 42mm Width 19mm. Thickness 7mm. Presumeably a piece of scrap lead used for testing a stamp. The cross on the reverse may be accidental, or another test of a mould.
