Fragment of medieval knife consisting of a short section of extremely corroded iron whittle tang and copper alloy oval D-sectioned hilt band, flattened at one end and now split apart by the force of the corroding iron at the other. Width of band 7mm. Length circa 20mm. Width uncertain due to distortion. 12th - 15th century.

Roman iron shackle of Manning's (1985, 82-4, fig.23, no.7.) Type 7: comprising a bent curved broad C-sectioned bar (diameter 140mm, width 35mm) with loops or 'eyes' at both ends, one broken, the other holding a long curved ovoid loop. Measuring 70 x 163mm.

Strongly convex blade which is wide in proportion to its length, with an almost straight back which continues the line of the socket and begins to curve upwards towards the missing point. The socket is almost closed and is broken across the nail-hole. Manning (1985, 120-2, plte 57) Type 1b, The form of the cleaver is closest to Q96. The majoity of these cleavers were used for butchering meat and intended for chopping rather than slicing.
