Silver ring with an irregular faceted and worn section. External diameter 24 - 25mm. Internal diameter 18 - 19mm. Thickness 3 - 4mm. Weight 4.2g. The ring is undecorated, without marks and not neatly finished and is therefore unlikely to have been a finger ring. It is very similar to many recorded examples of 14th - 16th century copper alloy rings possibly used to hang drapes (Egan, 1998, 62 - 4), or possible simple brooches or buckles. However, the degree of wear and lack of diagnostic features makes close dating impossible, although it is likely to be ancient and over 300 years old.

Description: Undated gold ring. Slightly irregular section, D-shaped externally with a median arris internally. The internal surface is irregular and not well finished / smoothed in some areas. Date: Undated. Dimensions: Internal diameter 16 - 17mm. External diameter 22 - 22.5mm. Width of band 4 - 4.5mm. Thickness of band 2.5 - 3mm. Weight 6.7g. Discussion: The lack of diagnostic features make this ring difficult to date. The irregular section of the band would be unusual for a post-medieval finger ring, the form and plainness would be unusual for a ring of Roman to Medieval dat…
