Object type: RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published
Silver ring with an irregular faceted and worn section. External diameter 24 - 25mm. Internal diameter 18 - 19mm. Thickness 3 - 4mm. Weight 4.2g.
The ring is undecorated, without marks and not neatly finished and is therefore unlikely to have been a finger ring. It is very similar to many recorded examples of 14th - 16th century copper alloy rings possibly used to hang drapes (Egan, 1998, 62 - 4), or possible simple brooches or buckles. However, the degree of wear and lack of diagnostic features makes close dating impossible, although it is likely to be ancient and over 300 years old.
