Object type: ROUGHOUT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Neolithic adze rough-out made from a thermally fractured (or "pot lid" fracture) piece of lightly patinated mottled grey flint broken from a larger nodule, two small unretouched areas remain on the ventral face and two small patches of weathered cortex remains on the dorsal face. Both faces are crudely hard hammer struck with some flake scars terminating in hinges. It is unlikely this piece was finished and it appears it was abandoned before completion. 120 x 44 x 25 mm.

Object type: BORER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A large hand held boring tool or possible pointed "fabricator" made on a core of surface flint of unusual dark reddish colour with a large area of pale cortex remaining at the butt end. The flint exhibits natural thermal fractures which have been enhanced by first invasively flaking and then a second row of steep flaking to form a point at one end.
Most of the flakes have been removed from both lateral edges of one face and the edges themselves are heavily abraded from use although the tip is fairly fresh and unworn, suggesting its use as a rotary boring tool for enlarging holes ra…

Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Neolithic fully polished stone axe of pale olive colour with a few minor ancient chips to both ends. There is a larger sub-conchoidal recent damage flake removed towards the middle of one face, the stone in this facet is of a grey/green nature and is unpatinated showing the original colour of the rock. The lateral edges are sharply faceted and the cutting edge shows signs of being re-flaked and reground, thus the axe may have been much larger originally. Surviving dimensions: 114.5 x 65 x 32mm.
This stone has its origins in Cumbria and is a product of the Great Langdale axe "fact…

Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age very unusual and simple arrowhead, with tang but no barbs, apparently made on a fortuitously shaped flake fragment which only required bilateral and bifacial retouch at one end to form a sharp point. Unpatinated. Probably Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age, when barbed and tanged arrowheads were in use.
