Object type: ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Neolithic unpatinated black flake, appears to be a possible sub-triangular arrowhead with transverse bending fractures to both the distal and proximal ends, this is usual damage for an arrow that has hit a hard surface. It is manufactured quickly from a flat secondary flake with a small patch of weathered cortex on the dorsal face towards the distal end and is only slightly retouched in places to correct the curvature and improve symmetry. 26 x 18 x 3 mm. Finder's no. 1.

Late Neolithic oblique arrowhead made from a hard hammer struck tertiary flake of unpatinated mottled grey flint with steep retouch taken from the ventral face along one lateral edge and the base; the other edge is lightly retouched towards the tip to straighten up the profile. 31.5 x 15 x 4.5 mm.

Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age very unusual and simple arrowhead, with tang but no barbs, apparently made on a fortuitously shaped flake fragment which only required bilateral and bifacial retouch at one end to form a sharp point. Unpatinated. Probably Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age, when barbed and tanged arrowheads were in use.

Leaf Arrowhead (incomplete) Dimensions 36 x 25 x 4.6mm. A broad based, thin leaf arrowhead, recently snapped transversely with loss of the point. Finished overall on both faces by peripheral shallow pressure flaking, with complete removal of the surface of the blank. Both faces show signs of incipient patination, which has not affected the break surface. Leaf Arrowheads are a defining artefact of the Neolithic (especially the Early Neolithic Period, 4000-3000BC).
