Description: Medieval to post-medieval gold finger ring. The oval-sectioned band expands smoothly from the rear to shoulders which flair before narrowing sharply to join the bezel. The shoulders are engraved to leave a foliate design in low relief, perhaps originally reserved on an inlayed field, although no inlay survives. D-sectioned band decorated externally with a foliate design consisting of two stems each with two pairs of leaves before a flower, originally reserved on an enamelled field of which only a tiny pink trace of which survives. Inscribed internally in lombardic script +CAVE+CVI+CREDAS (be careful who you trust) followed by a foliate sprig. Date: c. early 16th century. Dimensions: External diameter 21mm. D-sectioned band decorated externally with a shallow rib at either edge, between which four oval cells alternate with five quatrefoil cells (resulting in two quatrefoils next to each other). Incomplete medieval gold finger ring. An oval collet forms a bezel, the upper half with sloping, concave sides, the lower half with flat sloping sides. The narrow, broken and slightly distorted hoop is oval-sectioned, expanding slightly at the shoulders to small triangular bosses at the join between the hoop and the bezel. There is no trace of engraved decoration and the rear of the hoop is missing. When found, the collet contained a red or pink stone, presumebaly glass, which had sunk into the collect. Medieval or post-medieval fragment of silver, gilded finger ring, broken at both ends and now distorted almost straight. Flat-sectioned band decorated on the external face with a row of stamped pellets in a concave moulding with a shallow concave moulding to either side.
