Roman copper alloy furniture fitting, perhaps a casket or box mount. Hollow backed, circular stud with the lion's face in high relief, with grooves defining the mouth and snout, and details of the eyes. The outer flange is engraved with radiating lines representing the mane around rounded ears. The reverse of the mount is filled with white metal and a central corroded iron shank. Diameter 25mm. Height 13mm. For similar examples see NMS-DB80B4, and an example from Skeleton Green, Hertfordshire (Partridge, 1981, 314, fig.119a). Circa 43 - 150 AD.

Medieval or post-medieval copper alloy buckle. Double-oval frame, flat back, convex front with slightly bevelled edges, knop on frame at either end of narrowed bar, sheet pin with bevelled edges and missing tip. Measuring 33 x 23mm. 14th - 16th century.
