A heavily clipped denier of Conrad, bishop of Utrecht (1076-99). There are four piercings near the edge of the coin, arranged roughly as the spots on the face of a die. One of these is now empty, the other three still contain small silver rivets. Two of these rivets secure a catchplate formed of a silver strip; a pin attachment would doubtless have been secured by the other two rivets, one now missing. Thus, this coin has been adapted as a small disc brooch. The exterior face is gilded and depicts a façade within a beaded border. The interior face is not gilded and figures a male hea…

The second shield is broken across the base and bears an orb, the makers mark for William Cobbold. This is Cobbold's second mark; the first being an orb on a lozenge. There are multiple straight cut marks on the face of plate where the priest has divided the Host, 'a clear indication of its use a…

Summary: Bronze Age hoard consisting of 191 objects including wood and cloth. The finds were found with a metal detector in the ploughsoil over an area at least 30ft. across, and the site was subsequently excavated by Andrew Rogerson. The site was ridged for asparagus immediately prior to the first discovery. During excavation, the surface was removed to reveal an almost square pit (300 x 300mm) cut into natural orange clay to a depth of 90mm. The very clearly defined edges of the cut indicate that the pit was not left open for a great length of time. The upper surface was ba…
